CA Hotels Establish Cleanliness Standards for Re-Opening

CDC-based guidelines will protect well-being of guests, employees

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--When the economy begins to re-open, California hotels will play an integral part by adhering to updated standards of cleanliness and health safety for guests and employees, the California Hotel and Lodging Association announced today.

CHLA, incorporating recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the California Department of Public Health and county health departments, has established standards for guest and employee cleanliness, workplace cleaning and safety, and changing guest experiences. The comprehensive “Clean + Safe” program provides the two essential elements needed for a hotel to successfully re-open – guidance for hoteliers and confidence for travelers.

“Expectations of ‘normal’ are changing, so hotels will be required to adapt to provide improved health safety and communicate those changes to everyone,” said Lynn S. Mohrfeld, President and CEO of CHLA. “CHLA’s Clean + Safe program will ensure hotels are safe for all of our guests and each of our employees.”

For guests, the standards include new arrival procedures, availability of sanitation amenities, physical distancing recommendations and even how to use elevators, among other changes. For employees, the standards include COVID-19 trainings, use of personal protective equipment, handwashing, and safely engaging with guests.

The full list of updated standards is available at www.calodging.com.
