Smarsh Bolsters Board with Appointment of Director Susan Theder

Financial Industry Veteran Brings Growth-Minded Marketing Leadership

PORTLAND, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Smarsh®, helping customers get ahead – and stay ahead – of the risk within their electronic communications, today announced the appointment of Susan Theder to the Smarsh board of directors. Theder currently serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at Advisor Group, one of the largest networks of independent wealth management firms in the United States.

With more than 20 years of senior leadership experience, Theder has achieved repeated success in growing mid-stage private equity-owned companies. She emphasizes the importance of customer-focused strategies that leverage data and technology to deliver highly personalized experiences. She is also a leader in developing the next generation of talent for the industry, with a special focus on supporting women’s initiatives. In 2019, Theder was named “CMO of the Year” by WealthManagement.com, and a “Women to Watch” by Investment News.

Theder joins the Smarsh board of directors at a pivotal time for the company, as it experiences another year of aggressive global growth and industry leadership. It was recently positioned as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Information Archiving for the fifth consecutive year. Last week, Smarsh announced its selection to the Microsoft One Commercial Partner program with co-sell ready status for its Enterprise Archive.

“I’m excited to join the Smarsh team, which has built an impressive business by solving mission-critical compliance challenges for banks, broker-dealers, investment advisors and firms across the financial services industry,” said Theder. “I look forward to helping the company build on its reputation as the market leader of products, services and support that keep its customers ahead of the evolving regulatory environment.”

Prior to joining Advisor Group in 2016, Theder spent nearly six years as the CMO at Cetera Financial Group. Preceding Cetera, Theder was a Managing Director at Pershing, LLC, responsible for strategic marketing of their broker-dealer, registered investment advisor, and global business units. She also held senior positions in marketing, product management and practice management at Fidelity Investments.

“We are excited to welcome an executive and leader of Susan Theder’s caliber to the Smarsh board of directors,” said Stephen Marsh, Smarsh Founder and Chairman. “Her industry experience, depth of knowledge and breadth of insight will help drive the right outcomes for Smarsh customers and accelerate our global growth at Smarsh.”
