NSTA’s Latest Guide to Argument-Driven Inquiry Brings Three-Dimensional Electricity and Magnetism Labs to the Physics Classroom

ARLINGTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--High school teachers who want new ways to help physics students learn more from lab activities have a new resource from NSTA Press. The book—a one-stop source of expertise and lessons to help students work the way scientists do—is Argument-Driven Inquiry in Physics, Volume 2: Electricity and Magnetism Lab Investigations for Grades 9–12.

The book is divided into three parts:

  • An introduction to argument-driven inquiry and how to use the labs.
  • A series of 17 field-tested labs that cover electrostatics; electric current, capacitors, resistors, and circuits; and magnetic fields and electromagnetism. Introduction labs acquaint students with new content. Application labs encourage deeper exploration of the use of a theory, law, or unifying concept.
  • Helpful appendixes that provide scoring rubrics and peer review guides. The appendixes also show how the labs support the Next Generation Science Standards, AP Physics standards (for both algebra- and calculus-based courses), and the Common Core State Standards for mathematics and English language arts.

ADI in Physics, Volume 2 is a follow-up to ADI in Physics, Volume 1: Mechanics Lab Investigations for Grades 9–12. Both are part of the NSTA Press series for ADI in high school biology, chemistry, and Earth and space science. Like the previous volumes, this book provides easy-to-use lab handouts, student pages, teacher notes, and checkout questions. It also comes in a student edition.
