Carnegie Learning Launches Community to Connect World Language Educators

#LanguageIsLimitless gives educators a place to share resources and celebrate the power of language

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Carnegie Learning announced today that it has created a new community to connect and support world language educators as they work to prepare the next generation of global citizens. The new community, named #LanguageIsLimitless, has been built not only for, but with the world language teaching community, who chose the name at the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) conference in Washington, D.C. last fall.

Many teachers experience burnout and feelings of isolation in their work, and statistics show that 44% of new teachers leave the profession within five years.1 A 2016 report by the U.S. Department of Education found that 44 states and Washington, D.C. had a shortage of qualified foreign language instructors at the K-12 level for the 2016–2017 school year.2

Carnegie Learning is addressing these challenges by creating a space where educators can feel supported, encouraged, and most importantly, not alone in the important work they do every day. #LanguageIsLimitless connects teachers online in a private Facebook group where they can 1) share ideas and encouragement with each other and 2) share their challenges with Carnegie Learning so its team of experts can offer resources and support. Community members also receive a monthly email newsletter and blog with strategies that they can put to use right away in the classroom.

“We are so excited to bring world language teachers together to learn from one another and grow together,” says Jennifer Kilmore, Customer Success Specialist and former President of the Arkansas World Language Teacher’s Association. “As teachers, we are always naturally reflecting, refining, and growing our practice. At Carnegie Learning, we want to give you the opportunity to do it together.”

“We look forward to taking the success we’ve had with the LONG + LIVE + MATH Community—now 7,000 members strong—and bringing that kind of support, connection and inspiration to world language teachers, who are tasked with preparing our students for a globalized society,” says Barry Malkin, CEO.

The LONG + LIVE + MATH Movement, launched in October 2017, has grown to offer not only a blog, newsletter and online community, but in-person events like LONG + LIVE + MATH: The National Institute, a professional learning conference named one of the “7 best math conferences for teachers to attend” by Mashup Math.3 Members also receive a virtual “Game-Changer Series,” which provides five weeks of tools to help teachers take their practice to the next level.

There are no costs or requirements to join the #LanguageIsLimitless Community. It is open to all teachers and education leaders who want to celebrate the power of language. For more information and to join the community, visit www.carnegielearning.com/languageislimitless.
