SourceCode Expands D2C Practice, Signs as MakeSpace's Agency of Record

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SourceCode Communications today announced that it has been selected as the communications agency of record for MakeSpace, a tech-enabled, full-service storage company that is disrupting the 40 Billion dollar self-storage industry. The partnership officially kicked off in January after a competitive pitch. The brief was centered around identifying the right partner to help ideate and execute creative campaign initiatives, thought leadership and traditional media relations. On the heels of the investment and partnership with Iron Mountain, Makespace has accelerated national expansion—growing from 4 to 24 markets in under 2 years—and now is focused on increasing brand awareness and educating the consumer on their convenient approach to the problems of stuff.

“In spite of all the ways MakeSpace has transformed the industry, storage isn’t a business that people feel compelled to read or write about. SourceCode immediately understood the value of our service and mission, and came in with ideas to get people excited about storage. Storage and excitement are not words that typically go together, so this is pretty impressive,” said Matthew O’Dowd, VP of Marketing, MakeSpace.

MakeSpace, founded in 2013, replaces the cumbersome and expensive self-storage experience with storage without the struggle — picking up, hauling, and storing customers’ stuff, then delivering it back to them on demand. The company employs data and machine learning to provide a seamless self-storage experience, providing optimal pricing and allowing users to schedule appointments and track and view their stored items in real time.

“Millions of Americans use storage facilities, and we all understand the challenges, inefficiencies, and generally poor customer experience most of these services provide. By leveraging technology first and a customer-centric mindset, Makespace is disrupting the way we think about storage and is fundamentally changing the industry,” said Greg Mondshein, Managing Partner, SourceCode Communications. “By using creative storytelling and good old fashion hustle, we will change the way people think about and leverage storage. We’re honored to be working with Rahul, Matt, Rob, Miriam and the rest of the fantastic team.”

Launched at the end of 2017, SourceCode continues to disrupt the tech PR status quo. The agency experienced 101% growth from 2018 to 2019 and is on pace to nearly match that rapid expansion in 2020. Consumer technology brands, including TURO, Everlast, SCRUFF, Elvie and Handshake, account for more than one-third of agency revenue and are the fastest growing client group within SourceCode’s entire client portfolio. The agency, widely known for its data-driven storytelling, was recently shortlisted by PRWeek for the Boutique Agency of the Year and named New, Fastest Growing and eighth Most Creative Agency by PRovoke.
