Matthews Asia Adds Senior Investment Leadership

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Matthews Asia today announced the appointment of Yu-Ming Wang as President and Global Chief Investment Officer of Matthews Asia. In this newly created role based in San Francisco, Yu-Ming will be responsible for the leadership and oversight of the firm’s investment team and serve as a member on the firm’s Executive Committee.

Matthews Asia was founded in 1991 on a fundamental belief in Asia’s long-term growth opportunities. With the region, and in particular China, becoming an increasingly important part of an investor’s portfolio, Matthew Asia has appointed Yu-Ming Wang to provide senior executive leadership of the investment team and work closely with the senior management team to ensure the firm continues to be appropriately positioned to support our global clients.

Yu-Ming, who was previously Deputy President and Global CIO for Nikko Asset Management, will bring his deep experience of Asia to the firm and strengthen Matthew Asia’s value proposition as an Asia specialist. With 34 years of financial and investment experience, including the last 12 years managing investment teams in the Asia Pacific region, Yu-Ming has significant experience providing senior leadership to global investment teams, building Asian investment businesses—including in China—and developing strong institutional client relationships in Asia Pacific.

Following this hire, Robert Horrocks, PhD, will continue in his role as Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager, with no changes to his day to day responsibilities.

William Hackett, Chief Executive Officer, commented: “We are excited to appoint someone of Yu-Ming’s considerable experience to our senior leadership team. As an accomplished, senior executive, his corporate leadership and experience working in Asia brings significant value to the firm and our clients. His appointment is consistent with our thoughtful and disciplined approach to long-term strategic planning of the firm and Yu-Ming will further enhance our senior leadership team as we continue to broaden our business and client base globally.”

Yu-Ming Wang, President and Global Chief Investment Officer, commented: “I am delighted to take up this new role and join a firm that has built a strong reputation as a successful Asia specialist over the past 29 years and is highly respected within the industry. I look forward to working closely with Robert Horrocks and the entire investment team to ensure it continues to deliver high quality investment research, compelling long-term investment performance and investment solutions that meet the needs of our growing global client base.”

Robert Horrocks, CIO and Portfolio Manager, commented: “I look forward to partnering with Yu-Ming on developing the long-term strategic plan for the investment team so that we remain positioned for future growth, while continuing to focus on generating excess returns for our clients.”
