Piper Sandler Appoints Matt Sznewajs and John Tye as Co-Heads of Diversified Industrials and Services Investment Banking

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Piper Sandler Companies (NYSE: PIPR), a leading investment bank and institutional securities firm, has named Matt Sznewajs and John Tye as co-heads of diversified industrials and services (DIS) investment banking. Mike Dillahunt and Ted Garner, current co-heads of the DIS group, have been appointed vice chairmen of investment banking. Garner will serve as chairman of DIS investment banking and continue to provide oversight to the group. Dillahunt will serve as chairman of M&A and private equity coverage for the firm.

These promotions reflect the firm’s commitment to invest in the next class of leaders and strategically grow our advisory business in key sectors. “Matt and John are each well respected, creative bankers with proven track records. They have played a large role in the growth of the DIS group over the past several years. We look forward to their leadership and teamwork as we continue to build upon and expand the DIS franchise,” said Scott LaRue, global co-head of investment banking and capital markets at Piper Sandler.

Sznewajs, who joined Piper Sandler in 2002, is currently a managing director focused within the DIS team. He has completed numerous M&A and capital markets transactions for a mix of private equity and public clients. Prior to joining the firm, Sznewajs worked at Ernst & Young LLC and Nomura Securities. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree from Northwestern University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University.

Tye, who joined Piper Sandler in 2013, has nearly 20 years of M&A experience with numerous clients across a variety of transactions. Prior to joining Piper Sandler, Tye was with Edgeview Partners for 10 years, where he founded its business and industrial services practice. He also previously worked in the mergers and acquisitions group at Morgan Stanley, and as a consultant at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture).

Under Dillahunt and Garner’s leadership, the DIS investment banking team has increased its sector coverage and dramatically grown its private equity advisory business. The DIS team has expanded to more than 50 bankers today, and increased revenue by nearly 400% since 2013.

“Ted and Mike have built a team and a practice with incredible momentum. We are excited for them to continue to help us grow the DIS franchise and our broader advisory business,” added Chad Abraham, chairman and chief executive officer of Piper Sandler.
