MEDITECH Furthers Commitment to Interoperability as Valley Presbyterian Hospital Goes LIVE with Connection to the CommonWell Nationwide Network

California hospital among first MEDITECH sites to also connect to the Carequality Framework via the CommonWell network

WESTWOOD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MEDITECH, a leading Enterprise Health Record (EHR) vendor, is pleased to announce that Valley Presbyterian Hospital (Van Nuys, CA) has successfully connected to CommonWell Health AllianceⓇ. Valley Presbyterian Hospital is one of the first MEDITECH sites to go LIVE with the CommonWell network and its connection to the Carequality Framework.

“These data sharing services position us to better serve our community across the continuum of care,” said Jeff Allport, vice president and chief information officer, Valley Presbyterian Hospital. “Our approach is to support health data exchange in every method we can to ultimately provide enhanced patient care.”

Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s connection to the CommonWell network and its bridge to the Carequality Framework help support the organization’s interoperability and health data exchange initiatives. Many hospitals and clinics service the local population and the hospital wanted a generalized solution, not one that is EHR specific, that would enable them to connect to multiple organizations. One of the most beneficial outcomes of the health data connections has been the ability for providers to access patient visit summaries from other participating partners.

CommonWell Services provides seamless access to patient information, saving providers time, and facilitates stronger clinical decision support. Additionally, data sharing through these connections supports value-based care initiatives.

In November of 2018, the CommonWell network announced the rollout of its connection to the Carequality Framework, increasing health IT connectivity nationwide. Like Valley Presbyterian Hospital, MEDITECH customers who go LIVE with CommonWell Services can also freely exchange records with participating Carequality-enabled providers, many of which use EHR systems that traditionally don’t share information with competing systems. With the CommonWell network and Carequality Framework exchanging records, most major EHR vendors have a bridge to real interoperability.

“This is an essential step in advancing health data exchange and we are pleased to help Valley Presbyterian Hospital achieve this milestone,” said Helen Waters, MEDITECH executive vice president. “We look forward to more MEDITECH organizations connecting to the CommonWell network, and continued efforts to promote data sharing within the healthcare industry.”

Valley Presbyterian Hospital is an independent, nonprofit and nonsectarian hospital serving the medical needs of the San Fernando Valley community for more than 60 years. Valley Presbyterian Hospital has grown to become one of the largest acute-care hospitals in the region and continues to provide patient-centered care for a healthy community. The 350-bed facility offers advanced technology and a full range of medical services to improve and save lives.
