Photography News: Nikon has come to CES 2020 with a ton of new products that cover a majority of their imaging line. The D780 DSLR is easily the star, though the F-mount 120-300mm f/2.8, Z 70-200mm f/2.8, and COOLPIX P950 are all great releases.

NEW YORK--()--B&H Photo would like to share the announcement of the Nikon D780 DSLR, AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR Lens, NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S Lens, and COOLPIX P950 Camera. This is a stunning showing at CES 2020 and a wide range of photographers will be able to find something to like in this release.

DSLRs are far from dead, and the release of the D780 shows it. This is a solid mid-range full-frame offering with a 24.5MP CMOS sensor and the EXPEED 6 image processor. Sensitivity ranges of ISO 100–51200 and an extended range of ISO 50–204800 make it a versatile pick while a 180k-pixel RGB sensor with Advanced Scene Recognition make shooting a more pleasant experience. The system also offers two AF systems, depending on whether you use the optical finder or live view. The optical system features a 51-point phase-detect AF system sensitive to -3 EV and with advanced tracking. In live view, the D780 uses a 278-point hybrid setup with a standard sensitivity of -4 EV and a Low-Light AF mode capable of working down to -6 EV. It also supports Eye AF. To go along with a speed AF system, the camera can reach continuous shooting rates of 7 fps with the mechanical shutter, or 12 fps when using electronic.

Completing the D780’s package is a well-designed body with a familiar, reliable form factor. It features a 0.70x optical viewfinder with 100% coverage and a 2.36M-dot tilting touchscreen. And, for video aficionados, the D780 has UHD 4K at up to 30 fps with N-Log and HLG profiles. Other features include time-lapse video, 2MP stills at up to 120 fps, and built-in wireless connectivity.

Maybe best suited for the D6, Nikon is officially releasing the AF-S NIKKOR 120-300mm f/2.8E FL ED SR VR Lens for F-mount DSLRs. This is a perfect choice for demanding sports and action photographers who need speed and versatility. A fast f/2.8 aperture provides consistent exposure throughout the range while a fast autofocus system helps you stay on target. The lens also uses new Short-Wavelength Refractive optics alongside standard ED glass to minimize chromatic aberrations, particularly those in the blue spectrum. It also has Vibration Reduction rated to 4 stops and a rotating tripod collar.

The other telephoto zoom being announced is the important NIKKOR Z 70-200mm f/2.8 VR S. It is a critical lens for any system and is great to see for Nikon’s ever-growing full-frame Z Series mirrorless lineup. It is sharp, practically eliminates focus breathing, and has plenty of Nikon’s latest optical tech. It is going to be a great lens and one that everyone will want for their Z Series camera.

Finally, the COOLPIX P950 is a fun addition to Nikon’s superzoom point-and-shoot offerings. It is very similar to the popular P1000, though it is a little more conservative with the zoom range, opting for an 83x optical zoom with an equivalent focal length of 24–2000mm. A bit of extra reach can be found by using Dynamic Fine Zoom for a 166x zoom. Also, the lens has a maximum aperture range of f/2.8–6.5. Making the most of this lens is a 16MP backlit CMOS sensor and EXPEED image processor. Also, the lens has Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction to ensure stable stills and video—even at exceptional focal lengths.

The P950 has great video features as well with UHD 4K available at up to 30 fps. And, the body design is ergonomic, with a large grip for added comfort. Users can make use of a 0.39″ 2.36M-dot OLED EVF or a 3.2″ 921k-dot articulating LCD. A hot shoe is even available for accessories, such as a speedlight or the DF-M1 Dot Sight. It also has built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
