MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits (Southern Glazer's)—the world’s preeminent distributor of beverage alcohol—today announced that more than 10,000 employees have successfully completed wine, spirits, and sake education training. Southern Glazer's has continued to expand its robust offering of educational programs with new certification opportunities, including the Spanish Wine Scholar Program, the most advanced and comprehensive certification course on Spanish wines. Five employees also passed the WSET Sake Educator Training Program (ETP), joining a select group of educators in the U.S. certified to teach WSET Sake Programs.
“One of Southern Glazer’s strongest differentiators is the passion of its employees,” said Eric Hemer, Senior Vice President and Director of Wine Education, Southern Glazer’s. “We’re proud to see this passion for our business translate into the most highly-trained salesforce in the industry. Deep knowledge of the products we sell enables us to better represent our suppliers in the marketplace and deliver greater value to our customers.”
Southern Glazer’s educational program begins with online introductory courses in wine, spirits, and sake offered on Southern Glazer’s University (SGU), the Company’s online learning and development portal. Then, training continues with both online and classroom instruction in pursuit of educational certification from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET), the Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS), Society of Wine Educators (SWE), and Wine Scholar Guild, as well as advanced focused education and certifications.
“From introductory to master-level courses, we are proud of the breadth of educational opportunities available to Southern Glazer’s employees,” said Steve Slater, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Wine Division, Southern Glazer’s. “The program provides a great foundation for personal and professional enrichment.”
In addition to deepening employees’ knowledge of American wines, certifications in specific wine categories such as Champagne, Burgundy, Italy and Spain are available. The courses offered on SGU are also available to customers and suppliers.
“Our program is unique because it offers learning opportunities to the entire Southern Glazer’s employee population,” said Mel Dick, Senior Vice President of Southern Glazer’s and President of its Wine Division. “Whether employees are in the frontline salesforce, warehouse, or corporate office, an engaged and educated workforce will always help us deliver on our promises to suppliers and customers.”
