LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Herbalife Nutrition (NYSE: HLF), an ongoing proud partner of Proactive Sports Performance (PSP), congratulates the six participants in the 2019 PSP scouting combine training class who were recently selected in the NFL Draft. These athletes were part of the Proactive draft class and have achieved excellence on and off the field.
“Over the course of this intensive program, I worked with the athletes to personalize their nutrition based on their personal goals, and the goals set by their agent and the PSP strength and conditioning coaches,” said Dana Ryan, Ph.D., M.A., Director, Sports Performance and Education at Herbalife Nutrition. “It is an honor to watch these athletes realize their dreams on draft day.”
As part of the training program, the athletes were supported by a team of coaches and nutrition experts who enhanced their mental and physical readiness to compete and excel at the highest level. The holistic approach combined customized meal and supplement plans with education around hydration and recovery, both of which are critical to the overall health and performance of elite athletes. Herbalife Nutrition supplied the products consumed by the athletes.
At the end of the program, these collegiate athletes were drafted into the NFL:
- Michael Deiter — offensive lineman, University of Wisconsin—3rd round draft pick signed by Miami Dolphins*
- Khalen Saunders — defensive tackle, Western Illinois University—3rd round pick signed by Kansas City Chiefs*
- Cameron Smith — linebacker, University of Southern California—5th round draft pick signed by Minnesota Vikings*
- Caleb Wilson — tight end, University of California at Los Angeles—7th round pick signed by Arizona Cardinals*
- Beau Benzschawel — offensive lineman, University of Wisconsin—free agent signed by the Detroit Lions*
- Brett Rypien — quarterback, Boise State—free agent signed by the Denver Broncos*
Defensive tackle Khalen Saunders, drafted in the third round by the Kansas City Chiefs, has a unique story. His goal when he began PSP was to cut body fat to help with speed and agility.*** After being the first player selected to the Reese’s Senior Bowl in his alma mater's history, Saunders won “Athlete of the Week” and garnered national attention from a viral video which showed him landing a front handspring flip with this 300-pound frame. “After my training at PSP, I better understand the importance of nutrition to achieve peak results in my training,” said Saunders. “It is a blessing to work with Dr. Dana, the entire Herbalife24 team and Proactive.”
Since partnering with PSP, Herbalife Nutrition has worked with more than 100 college football players by utilizing nutrition to help them maximize their training and performance goals in order to help them realize their dreams of being drafted.
