ServiceMaster Honors Memphis Bicentennial with Spring Clean 2019

Employee volunteers living out mission to create cleaner, safer, healthier spaces; seek to foster creativity inside four local schools by beautifying exteriors

MEMPHIS, Tenn.--()--This year marks the 200th birthday of the city of Memphis, and in celebration, ServiceMaster, a leading provider of pest control, cleaning and restoration services, will mark the momentous occasion with a day of community service to give back to a city that has given so much.

An estimated 350 ServiceMaster employees will complete simultaneous beautification projects at four Shelby County School campuses, including landscaping, painting, and other cleanup efforts as part of our overall commitment of caring about the communities where we live and work.

“Spring Clean ’19 will be a day for us to not only celebrate our city’s rich past, but also focus on creating cleaner, safer and healthier spaces,” said Nik Varty ServiceMaster CEO. “I’m so proud of our employees that are contributing to this important day. Our youth deserve environments they can enjoy and those that foster greater learning, and it is important for local companies to find ways to better serve, care and deliver them.”

In partnership with Shelby County Schools, Clean Memphis and APS Facility Maintenance, the projects were selected to help enhance the overall learning environment for students. The campuses are Ida B. Wells Academy, Kirby High School, Booker T. Washington High School and Riverview Middle School.

“By focusing on these needed beautification projects, we want students coming to school to feel a greater sense of pride, to stay positive and eager, and to excel as students so they can grow into the future leaders of our great community,” said Velvet Graham, senior director of Community Relations and Culture & Inclusion.

“We’re so thankful to ServiceMaster and the hundreds of employees who will be supporting our schools through their Spring Clean Project. It’s always inspiring to see businesses invest in the local community, and we’re excited about the impact these improvements will have on our students, teachers and families. We’re proud to be involved in this effort to make our city better,” said Dr. John Barker, SCS Chief of Staff.
