NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hodes Weill & Associates (Hodes Weill), a global advisory firm focused on the real estate investment and funds management industry, today announced that it has appointed Christopher Monsif, who is a Principal with the firm, to advance the continued growth of its real estate advisory practice, which focuses on mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and recapitalizations, and general strategic advice. To date, the firm has completed advisory assignments involving asset management platforms, portfolios and assets comprising in excess of $91 billion of AUM.
This strategic decision reflects the natural evolution of Hodes Weill’s advisory platform as the firm seeks to further capitalize on its real estate expertise, longstanding industry relationships with global institutions and investment managers, and track record of completing complex transactions across North America, Europe and Asia. Moreover, the consolidation occurring among global real estate investment managers presents a well-timed opportunity for Hodes Weill to strengthen the infrastructure supporting this facet of its business.
“Since our inception, our real estate advisory practice has grown organically in tandem with our market-leading capital advisory business,” said David Hodes, Managing Partner at Hodes Weill & Associates. “Given the current market environment, Hodes Weill is well-positioned to accelerate the growth of our advisory business. Both managers and their investors have witnessed the substantial increase in trading activity among real estate fund manager platforms, and our firm is understood to balance the needs of both managers and their investors to navigate the resultant opportunities and considerations. Chris will be instrumental in advancing our strategic priorities in this regard and will leverage the significant industry expertise we have at Hodes Weill.”
Since joining Hodes Weill in 2016, Mr. Monsif has both supported the firm’s capital raising initiatives and played a key role in the successful execution of numerous strategic advisory mandates. He has extensive experience providing strategic counsel to real estate investment managers across a broad array of initiatives. Prior to joining Hodes Weill, Mr. Monsif held positions at Five Mile Capital, J.P. Morgan and Tudor Investment Corporation.
Mr. Monsif commented, “Our market-leading position and in-depth knowledge of the interplay between real estate investment managers and their limited partners is central to our approach to advising clients. We believe this differentiation provides us with a sustainable competitive advantage as we devote additional resources to scale this line of business. We look forward to building on our success and serving as a trusted advisor to an even wider universe of real estate investment managers.”
Hodes Weill has acted as the sell-side financial advisor on a number of high-profile transactions including the sale of Standard Chartered’s pan-Asian investment management platform to Actis; the sale of a strategic equity stake in Tristan Capital Partners to Candriam Investors Group, an affiliate of New York Life; and the sale of Bentall Kennedy to Sun Life Financial. The firm also acted as exclusive strategic advisor to Clarion Partners on the $1.7 billion equity recapitalization of Gables Residential.
