Cambridge BioMarketing Projects ‘Faces of Rare’ in Boston’s City Hall Plaza to Commemorate Rare Disease Day 2019

Public art installation celebrates how patients stand up to rare every day

BOSTON--()--Cambridge BioMarketing, an Ashfield company, part of UDG Healthcare plc and the world’s leading rare disease agency, will project portraits of patients living with rare diseases on the side of Boston City Hall this Thursday, Feb. 28, Rare Disease Day, starting at 6 p.m. ET as part of its #FacesOfRare campaign. The installation, which features portraits of five patients living with conditions including hemophilia, HAE, FCS, lipodystrophy, and Morquio A, shares the patient perspective of living with a rare disease.

“Bringing these patients’ stories and voices forward is a critical step toward educating the public about the daily experience of people living with a rare disease,” said Maureen Franco, CEO, Cambridge BioMarketing. “These images depict strong, confident individuals who have overcome tremendous obstacles, and we are amazed by their bravery and willingness to tackle issues head on. By putting a face to the rare disease community in the middle of Boston, we’re proud to raise awareness of their journey, play a part in connecting them with transformational, potentially life-saving medicines, as well as serve as an advocate for the community at large.”

One of the patients in the showcase is Arista, a 28-year-old twin, fiancé and friend living with hereditary angioedema (HAE), which brings on unpredictable swelling attacks. She first learned of her diagnosis through her twin sister who was diagnosed first. Arista remains positive and supportive of her twin sister through their shared disease, while she looks forward to her wedding later this year.
