AHF Salutes Congress for Letter to Sec. of State Pompeo Seeking Funding Increase for Global Fund

Reflecting strong support for lifesaving program, bipartisan coalition of 137 Members of Congress write letter to Secretary of State Pompeo seeking increase in U.S. contribution to Global Fund.

WASHINGTON--()--AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) today praises bipartisan support for U.S. leadership in the global HIV response. With 137 Members of the U.S. Congress signing a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urging an increase in the U.S. government’s contribution to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, and with reauthorization of PEPFAR last year, AHF welcomes continued support from the U.S. Congress for the international fight against these three infectious diseases that still kill millions every year.

“Despite the chaos enveloping much of Washington today, we salute these 137 Members of Congress who recognize the importance of the Global Fund and the United States’ critical role as both a donor and catalyst for other countries to maintain and/or step up their own contributions to this lifesaving international program. We urge Secretary Pompeo to do whatever is in his power to honor this congressional request,” said Michael Weinstein, AHF President.

About AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest global AIDS organization, currently provides medical care and/or services to over one million people in 43 countries worldwide in the US, Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Asia/Pacific Region and Eastern Europe.
