Thanks to a recently announced relationship with the computational knowledge engine Wolfram|Alpha, Amazon’s smart assistant Alexa just got smarter and can now provide accurately computed answers to these questions and more.
Since its launch in 2009, Wolfram|Alpha has provided detailed answers to a broad range of questions, from the arts and pop culture to calculus and statistics, through its website and mobile app—and later through Apple’s smart assistant Siri. As opposed to traditional search engines, Wolfram|Alpha computes factual answers from curated data rather than providing links to unverified information. This new integration with Alexa harnesses the computational intelligence of Wolfram|Alpha and is now available to Amazon customers in the United States.

By sourcing answers from Wolfram|Alpha, Alexa greatly enhances its ability to provide users with factual information about history, economics, geography, math and astronomy—all computed on the fly. Some questions Alexa can now answer through Wolfram|Alpha include:
