Wildfire Recovery Attorneys File Lawsuit Against PG&E for Causing Camp Fire

Lawsuit Alleges historic blaze caused by Corporate Negligence; Fire remains uncontrolled, has claimed more than 56 lives

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Today, nationally recognized attorneys from Baron & Budd and Dixon Diab & Chambers LLP, collectively known as Wildfire Recovery Attorneys, announced that they have filed suit in San Francisco County on behalf of a Paradise, Calif. resident whose home was destroyed in the Camp Fire, which now ranks as the deadliest and most destructive fire in California history (Case No. CGC-18-571324).

In the suit, the firms allege that the fire began when electrical infrastructure owned, operated and maintained by Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) failed causing a spark and ignited the massive blaze. As a result of this alleged wrongdoing, the fire has, to date, claimed the lives of more than 56 people, destroyed more than 8,000 structures and burned approximately 135,000 acres. The fire has also destroyed a significant portion of the city of Paradise.

The suit also states that damages suffered by the plaintiffs include but are not limited to damage to or destruction of property, loss of cherished possessions and evacuation expenses.

“It is 100 percent the responsibility of utility providers, such as PG&E, to properly maintain their wires and electrical infrastructure,” said Baron & Budd Shareholder, John Fiske. “We believe that these fires were caused by PG&E’s repeated failures to keep their service delivery safe and we intend to hold them accountable for the devastation they have created.”

The attorneys from Wildfire Recovery Attorneys currently represent more than 800 families and victims of the 2017 Northern California wildfires against PG&E. The group also represents over 300 of victims of the 2017 Southern California wildfires against Southern California Edison. The attorneys at Wildfire Recovery Attorneys have a history of fighting for victims of wildfires, including court appointments as Lead Counsel in the North Bay and Thomas Fire cases. Baron & Budd also represents over 25 public entities, such as counties and cities, in wildfire recovery actions against PG&E and Southern California Edison.
