ANAHEIM, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On September 24, 2018, Catanzarite Law Corporation filed a proposed class action complaint against PREPAID ATTORNEY SERVICES INC. ("PASI"), JASON J. KIM, LAW OFFICES OF KIM, AU & ASSOCIATES and others alleging that PASI was and remains engaged in the unauthorized practice of law, charging consumers and others for legal services when PASI was not a law firm and not legally capable of offering legal services, and was not a licensed attorney referral service in violation of Business and Professions Code sections 6125 and 6155. The complaint alleges that a class comprised of an estimated One Thousand (1,000) persons paid PASI an estimated aggregate $23,000,000 for what is described as “Prepaid Attorney Service” pursuant to Prepaid Attorney Service Membership Plan Contracts for providing legal services or referrals to attorneys for legal services when PASI was not licensed to provide such services. The complaint alleges Violation of California Bus. & Prof. Code §17200 et seq., Money Had and Received and Unjust Enrichment, and Declaratory Relief for the recovery of all such payments. A class has not yet been certified. In addition, a direct action is also brought for Legal Malpractice, Constructive Fraud and Fraudulent Concealment concerning the allegedly substandard legal services and related fraud.
