Navigant Adds Utility Strategy and Transformation, Grid Modernization, and Regulatory Expertise to Growing Global Energy Segment

Latest senior hires support utilities and energy companies as they navigate the energy transition

CHICAGO--()--Navigant (NYSE: NCI) today announced four senior-level industry professionals have joined the company’s growing global Energy segment.

Ed Batalla, Mark Henderson, Lon Huber, and Maurits Ornstein, are seasoned energy industry experts who leverage a diverse, international background to bring clients the cutting-edge strategies they rely on in today’s evolving energy landscape.

Ed Batalla, Director, Miami, Fla.

Batalla’s career spans more than 30 years in the electric utility industry. Batalla joins Navigant’s Energy segment to focus on delivering full life cycle solutions to transform energy markets, system operations and infrastructure, assets, and technologies for a more sustainable, resilient, and secure energy system. Batalla will assist energy, utility, and government clients in crafting their smart grid and energy system transformation strategy and planning, as well as advise and manage the implementation, leveraging the integration of new technologies to transform the business and organization. Prior to consulting, Batalla worked in various business areas within NextEra Energy, Inc., including Transmission & Distribution, Wind Energy Development, and Power Generation.

Mark Henderson, Senior Executive Advisor, Toronto

Henderson brings over 15 years of experience in the utility industry to Navigant. His expertise includes energy strategy development and execution, utility transformation, change management, mergers and acquisitions, asset management, grid modernization, and utility operations. At Navigant, Henderson will focus on assisting utility clients as they transform their businesses and organizations. Henderson joins Navigant from a distinguished and award-winning career in the Ontario, Canada utilities industry, where he served as a CEO, operating executive, leader of competitive energy services, business and change agent, and was involved in two of the industry’s largest mergers. Henderson brings a unique blend of significant executive-level utility operating experience along with a background in management consulting and advisory services. In addition to leading utility transformation initiatives, he also built and managed several nonregulated competitive businesses and established multiple international new energy technology partnerships.

Lon Huber, Director, New York

Huber joins Navigant with over 10 years of experience in the energy industry, spanning the public and private sectors, as well as academia. Huber will lead Navigant’s North American retail regulatory offering. In this capacity, he will provide regulatory strategy support, expert witness testimony, proceeding strategy, and policy solutions on behalf of Navigant’s clients across the energy sector. Huber is known for his creative, data-driven solutions to the energy industry’s most pressing issues. Prior to joining Navigant, Huber led advances in rate design, RPS modernization, energy storage, distributed energy resources compensation and ownership, and community solar. He is a thought leader and speaks regularly at conferences across the country.

Maurits Ornstein, Director, The Hague, Netherlands

Ornstein has a strong track record, applying more than 25 years of experience as an international corporate executive in the power, renewables, and automotive sectors. He will focus on energy and utility clients in the Netherlands as part of Navigant’s Energy segment. He is seasoned in leading international teams and managing client accounts. From his early career, he leveraged his engineering background and executive training to address strategic customer issues in an analytical consultative selling approach. His focus is on complex problem solving in which critical thinking and creativity are needed to create value for multiple stakeholders. Before Ornstein joined Navigant, he was country director for General Electric and ALSTOM in the Netherlands. He worked as a corporate leader in business development, strategy, and M&A, and has a professional network in the power, renewables, grid, process industry, and financial services sector.
