Mission Bio Named a Winner of the 2018 Red Herring Top 100 North America Award

Creators of the world’s leading platform for Precision Genomics chosen as one of the most promising and innovative companies

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--()--Mission Bio, Inc., a leader in single-cell DNA analysis and precision genomics, today announced the company has been selected as a winner of the Red Herring's Top 100 North America Award, a prestigious list honoring the year’s most promising private technology ventures from the North American business region. Mission Bio helps researchers and clinicians unlock single-cell biology to enable the discovery, development, and delivery of precision medicine with Tapestri, the Precision Genomics Platform. Tapestri provides industry-first single-cell DNA analysis capability to enable the accelerated and accessible detection of genetic mutations within and across cells populations. With Mission Bio, researchers and clinicians have a highly sensitive, targeted, and customizable solution to move precision medicine forward.

“We are honored to be a winner of the Red Herring Top 100 North America Award,” said Charlie Silver, CEO of Mission Bio. “Recognition for our work in single-cell biology from a well-established organization with a proven track record of identifying big trends in disruptive technologies shows the potential reach and impact of our Tapestri Platform.”

The Mission Bio platform leverages proprietary droplet microfluidics with 10,000 cell throughput per run to access DNA at the single-cell level and identify single-nucleotide variants (SNVs) and indels, two types of genetic information that correspond to precision medicines. The unambiguous identification of these variants at disease-relevant sites in the genome is potentially of the utmost importance for patient stratification, therapy selection, and disease monitoring.

The Tapestri Platform includes an instrument, consumables, and software to offer a complete solution for single-cell DNA analysis. Tapestri runs targeted single-cell DNA panels with fixed and customizable content for applications in oncology, genome editing, infectious disease, and immunology.

Mission Bio has customers in leading academic medical centers throughout the United States including The National Cancer Institute, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, University of California-San Francisco, the University of Pennsylvania, Stanford University, and Washington University School of Medicine.

“2018’s crop of Top 100 winners has been among our most intriguing yet,” said Alex Vieux, CEO of Red Herring. “North America has led the way in tech for so many years, and to see such unique, pioneering entrepreneurs and companies here in California, which is in many ways the heartland of the industry, has been a thrilling experience.

“What has excited me most is to see so many people forging niches in high-tech and cutting edge sectors,” added Vieux. “Some of the technical wizardry and first-rate business models on show here at the conference has been fantastic to learn about. We believe Mission Bio embodies the drive, skill and passion on which tech thrives. Mission Bio should be proud of its achievement: the competition was incredibly strong.”

Red Herring’s editors have been evaluating the world’s startups and tech companies for over two decades. It gives them the ability to see through the industry’s hype, to pick firms that will continue on a trajectory to success. Brands such as Alibaba, Google, Kakao, Skype, Spotify, Twitter and YouTube have all been singled out in Red Herring’s storied history.
