NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Parabellum Capital LLC (“Parabellum”), a leader in litigation finance, today announced key new hires in sourcing and underwriting. The firm has also relocated from New York’s Financial District to larger offices in Midtown Manhattan.
Increased Sourcing Capabilities
Dai Wai Chin Feman has joined the firm as Director of Commercial Litigation Strategies and Sean Thompson has joined as Director of Intellectual Property Strategies. Both are charged with sourcing investment opportunities directly from corporates as the firm expands its deal flow and velocity of opportunities for partners and investors. They report into Co-Founder and CEO Howard Shams.
Mr. Chin Feman was most recently a litigation partner at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, where he specialized in commercial and antitrust litigation. Mr. Thompson was previously a patent litigator at WilmerHale and Senior Litigation Counsel at Blackbird Technologies, a leading patent monetization company. He was formerly associated with Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.
“Although commercial litigation finance has evolved, its core goal remains the same: to benefit claimants. Since we started in this business in 2006, our experience has taught us that transactions are best poised for success when all parties are truly aligned. Scaling our operations to meet increased demand from claimants will enable us to continue achieving what we originally set out to do – present businesses with aligned options to affirmatively pursue their claims,” said Mr. Shams.
“As third-party litigation funding enters the mainstream, the market is changing rapidly in response to the influx of capital. Joining Parabellum was more than an opportunity to enter a growing industry – it provided a unique chance to work with veteran industry innovators who are constructively shaping where it’s going,” said Mr. Chin Feman.
In addition to welcoming Messrs. Chin Feman and Thompson, the firm has strengthened its underwriting capabilities with the hire of Angela Ni as Director of Underwriting. Prior to joining Parabellum, Ms. Ni was a senior intellectual property litigator at Paul Hastings LLP. Experienced at the trial and appellate levels, Ms. Ni bolsters the firm’s ability to respond to growing investment demand.
Moshe Schwartz, who joined the firm in 2016 from Boies Schiller Flexner LLP, has been named Director of Portfolio Management. In this role, Mr. Schwartz is responsible for investment structuring and pricing, as well as portfolio risk assessment and management. Mr. Schwartz and Ms. Ni report into Co-Founder and CIO Aaron Katz.
“With the addition of Angela, Sean, and Dai Wai, our bench is among the deepest in the industry. We are positioned for the future of our business. Our team of seasoned and entrepreneurial law and finance professionals is more experienced, nimble, and diverse than ever,” said Mr. Katz.
