Pepperdine Graziadio Launches Executive Doctorate of Business Administration Program

LOS ANGELES--()--The Pepperdine Graziadio Business School announces the launch of its new Executive Doctorate of Business Administration (DBA) program which will provide experienced executives with high-level skills through rigorous courses, research, projects and in-person learning.

The Executive DBA at Pepperdine Graziadio is the only AACSB accredited executive doctorate business program in the Western U.S. region. Welcoming its inaugural class this fall, the program is taught by accomplished faculty at the top-ranked business school.

“A doctorate is the highest academic qualification a university can grant. The addition of the Executive DBA demonstrates our commitment to offer an advanced educational program that focuses on the unique needs of intellectually curious and progressive senior executives,” said Deryck J. van Rensburg, dean, Pepperdine Graziadio Business School.

The Executive DBA provides intellectually curious executives who are seeking to reflect upon, verify, and deepen their professional knowledge and personal wisdom with the opportunity to seek evidence-based insights into challenging business issues through applied research.

The program, designed specifically with a senior executive’s schedule in mind, blends six intensive week-long residential sessions at the Malibu campus with online learning directed instruction and self-paced assignments. Students will present their research ideas, in-process projects, and final papers to peers, faculty, and alumni at an annual DBA conference. The progression of coursework builds toward completion of the final research dissertation project.

In the first year, students select a business problem or opportunity and conduct a literature review to identify the relevant theories and assess current evidence-based knowledge about the topic. The second year of the program provides instruction on applied research methods and research design. These theoretical, empirical, and analytical foundations are used to shape students’ dissertation proposals, guide the applied research process, inform the interpretation of results, and final dissertation submissions.

Pepperdine Graziadio prepares DBA graduates to pursue a career from multiple avenues. Some graduates may choose to leverage the specialized knowledge and deep insights they acquire through their applied dissertation project to continue on their professional career paths. Others may choose to use the DBA credential to embark on a new career journey that includes a combination of publishing, speaking, consulting, and practitioner/clinical faculty appointments. The aim is to prepare graduates, who are themselves “Best for the World Leaders,” to inspire others to pursue the aspiration to become change makers who embody the core values of integrity, courageous compassion, pioneering spirit, and action taken today, not tomorrow.

“The scope of globalization, complexity, and competitiveness in business today opens multiple doors for senior executives with expertise and deeper insights beyond those provided by masters-level business programs,” said Dr. John Mooney, associate professor for Information Systems Technology Management at Pepperdine Graziadio and academic director for the Executive DBA program. “The Graziadio Business School Executive DBA program will guide executives through a rigorous, research-based learning experience that will allow them to leverage their many years of business experience. The program also enables executives to develop new evidence-based knowledge and insights, share these with the business community, and help shape future business practices and societal impacts.”

To apply, candidates need to have completed an undergraduate and master’s degree, and have accumulated 10+ years of executive-level business experience.
