Anthem Announces Plans to Remain Headquartered in Indianapolis

Company Will Renovate Current Anthem Indianapolis Location to Accommodate New Headquarters

INDIANAPOLIS--()--Anthem Inc. (NYSE: ANTM) today confirmed that the company will remain headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana and will invest approximately $20 million in renovations at the company’s largest facility in downtown Indianapolis to house the new corporate offices. Anthem, which was recently ranked 29 on the 2018 Fortune 500 list, is the largest publicly traded company with headquarters in Indiana. Once the renovations are complete in the fourth quarter of 2018, Anthem’s new headquarters will house more than 2,600 employees, in addition to more than 2,300 employees who work in other locations or work-at-home arrangements throughout the state.

“Indianapolis has been Anthem’s home since our company was founded nearly 75 years ago,” said Gail K. Boudreaux, President and Chief Executive Officer, Anthem. “Our employees live and work here and we are part of the community. We appreciate the support from the City of Indianapolis and the State of Indiana as we worked through the process to finalize our plans. We are excited that our new headquarters will be a state-of-the art building that reflects our proud history and creates a dynamic work environment that will support our goal of leading our industry through continued growth, innovation, and, most importantly, providing a healthier future for all Americans.”

“Anthem is a great partner to the state of Indiana, and we’re thrilled by the company’s affirmation of its long-term commitment to Indianapolis,” said Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb. “Anthem’s new headquarters will be a magnet for talent attraction and retention, and we look forward to their growth here in the Hoosier state.”

Anthem’s new headquarters recently received a Fitwell certification in recognition for its healthy workspace design that supports employee well-being with more open workspace and natural lighting. The building will feature dedicated collaboration areas, employee lounges, on-site fitness facility, and an on-site cafeteria focused on providing healthy food options.

“Anthem’s presence in our community has driven economic growth and corporate partnerships that have benefited Indianapolis residents,” said Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett. “Anthem has been an anchor for our community for decades, and with this new commitment to growing their home in Indianapolis, I am confident we will continue to succeed together for decades to come.”
