PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--A loud cheer erupted as NRG revealed this afternoon that Red Paw Emergency Relief Team received the top $100,000 donation from NRG Gives. NRG delivered the news in person when it unveiled a ceremonial oversized check at the Philadelphia Fire Academy, where Red Paw’s founder works.
Similar to the way NRG gives consumers the ability to choose their electric and natural gas provider, NRG Gives is a crowd-sourced, charitable giving program that enables employees and the public to engage with local nonprofits. Through the program, NRG employees nominate three finalists to participate in a public eight-day vote. The nonprofit with the most votes receives the $100,000 grand prize.
Two additional nonprofits, College Possible Philadelphia and Canine Partners for Life received $20,000 and $10,000 donations, respectively, based on the vote total.
“We can’t fully put into words the impact this $100,000 grant from NRG will have on Red Paw,” said Red Paw Emergency Relief Team President and co-founder Jen Leary. “This is a watershed moment in our history and for the families with pets we serve. We have big, yet achievable goals for this money so that we can be there for people for many years to come. Thank you NRG for this wonderful opportunity and for our supporters for voting for us.”
Red Paw Emergency Relief Team provides relief and recovery for displaced pets and their people 24/7, and helps ensure that all family members are taken care of during and after a disaster in their home.
“Congratulations to Red Paw Emergency Relief Team and the other nonprofits that were part of NRG Gives this spring,” said NRG Retail East Vice President and General Manager Mike Starck. “The public engagement during this latest round of NRG Gives is a testament to the vital work being done in our community by all three nonprofits. NRG, on behalf of its employees and customers, is honored to work with them and we encourage the public to continue to support their work.”
Because NRG is the leading energy supplier in Pennsylvania, with its retail east energy business based in Philadelphia, NRG is committed to supporting the communities where its customers live and work and the NRG Gives program is just one of the ways it does that. Through the NRG Gives program, NRG has awarded more than $375,000 to various Pennsylvania nonprofits since launching in November 2016.
