New Preventeza (Levonorgestrel Tablet, 1.5 mg) Emergency Contraceptive Brought To You by Vagisil® Helps Prevent Pregnancy Before It Starts

- Preventeza addresses the significant gap in the understanding and awareness of the role emergency contraception can play in preventing pregnancy -

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--()--Combe, Inc., the makers of Vagisil®, today announced the launch of Preventeza™ (levonorgestrel tablet, 1.5 mg), an emergency contraceptive (EC) for the prevention of pregnancy. Women have many contraceptive tools available to them; however condoms break and missed pills are inevitable and the rate of unplanned and mistimed pregnancies remains high1. Nearly half of pregnancies remain unintended.2 It is Vagisil’s mission to dedicate itself to providing education and access to emergency contraception to women who may need it so that they can take control of a stressful situation.

New Preventeza, available online or over-the-counter (OTC) as a single tablet, takes the panic out of a stressful moment, and is a proven option to help women prevent pregnancy before it starts by using the same ingredient as most birth control pills, just at a higher dose. By keeping Preventeza on hand, women can always be prepared and in control.

“It’s hard to believe that while one in two women may need an EC in their lifetime, only 10 percent of women have actually used it. If you’ve had a condom break or missed a pill, you are not alone and something this common shouldn’t send you in a panic to the drug store. At Vagisil, we are making it our mission to take this panic out of that stressful moment by allowing you to remain in control and help prevent pregnancy before it starts with Preventeza,” said Keech Combe-Shetty, CEO Vagisil.

Preventeza is brought to you by the makers of Vagisil, a trusted women’s health brand that encourages women to talk about health topics they are uncomfortable discussing, provides facts and resources to help educate, and thereby reduce the shame that still exists around vaginal and sexual health.

“I’m thrilled to be partnering with Vagisil to launch Preventeza and to ensure women know the facts about emergency contraception, so they feel empowered to take control. Practicing safe sex and being prepared for emergencies with Preventeza is now your plan A” said Logan Levkoff, PhD, MS, an internationally recognized expert on sexuality and relationships.

How Preventeza Works

Preventeza can be taken within 72 hours (three days) after unprotected sex has occurred, yet is most effective the sooner it is taken. While Preventeza works mainly by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary, it may also work by preventing fertilization of a released egg (the uniting of sperm with the egg) or preventing attachment of a fertilized egg to the uterus (implantation). Preventeza will not harm an existing pregnancy. Preventeza does not protect women from HIV infection (the virus that causes AIDS) and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

When used as directed, Preventeza can significantly decrease the chance of a woman becoming pregnant after unprotected sex. Approximately seven out of every eight women who would have become pregnant will not after taking Preventeza.3
