PROVO, Utah--()--Vivint Smart Home, a leading smart home company in North America, today announced it received a Utah Genius Award for ranking No. 3 on the list of Top 20 Utah companies with patents issued in 2017. In its 10th year, the Utah Genius awards program recognizes the people and companies behind the innovations driving Utah’s creative economy. Three Vivint executives – Jeremy Warren, Jim Nye and Matt Eyring – were also ranked in the top 10 on the Utah Genius list of Top 20 Patentees.

As a top tech innovator in Utah, Vivint had a total of 55 corporate patents issued by the U.S. Patent & Trade Office in 2017, more than double the 25 patents issued in 2016. The Vivint patents span technology innovation across security, home automation, voice control, cloud storage and IT.

The awards highlight the innovations of three Vivint executives as individual patentee winners:

  • Jeremy Warren, Chief Technology Officer, second place with 24 patents – Warren oversees the creation of new products and services, and has brought several popular smart home products to market, including the Vivint Doorbell Camera and the Vivint Ping indoor camera.
  • Jim Nye, Chief Product Operations Officer, third place with 23 patents – Nye is responsible for new product and technology development, including overseeing product requirements, testing and rollouts, as well as managing key business partnerships.
  • Matt Eyring, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, eighth place with 14 patents – Eyring launched and continues to oversee the Vivint Innovation Center, which was a key factor to the company’s securing the No. 22 position on Fast Company’s list of the World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies in 2017.

“Our patent portfolio has grown exponentially in the past few years since we founded the Vivint Innovation Center,” said Eyring. “These patents are simply the result of our focus on developing cutting-edge technology to create amazing smart home experiences for our customers.”
