MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Fortanix® Inc., the leader in Runtime Encryption, today announced that it has been named one of 10 finalists for the 2018 RSA® Conference Innovation Sandbox Contest for its Runtime Encryption and Self-Defending Key Management Service™ (SDKMS), a next-generation Hardware Security Module (HSM) product. On April 16, Fortanix will present to a panel of industry veteran judges and a live audience in a three-minute quick-pitch, competing for the coveted title of “Most Innovative Start Up” at RSA Conference 2018 in San Francisco.
RSAC Innovation Sandbox Contest is the leading platform for entrepreneurial cyber security companies to launch their ground-breaking research and innovations in front of venture capitalists, industry experts, senior level business practitioners and thought leaders. The event gives startups the kind of visibility and validation that turn into rapid growth and increased funding.
Since launching from stealth mode less than a year ago, Fortanix has already been selected by a number of customers and partners, including to power Equinix SmartKey™ HSM-as-a-service. The company has demonstrated the industry’s first Runtime Encryption for databases and analytics applications, running them securely inside Intel® SGX. Fortanix is working with customers across all major vertical markets, and has added more than 15 partners to its growing partner program.
“If you look at RSAC Innovation Sandbox contestants from the last five years alone, you’ll see more than $1.38 billion in combined investments and 12 acquisitions, proving the businesses that take this stage gain exposure to the right people at the right time to launch them to success,” said Sandra Toms, vice president and curator for RSA Conferences. “The submissions this year were noticeably competitive as we received exceptional entries from across the globe. I have no doubt this year’s presentations will be a must-see at RSA Conference.”
Last year, Fortanix introduced its Self-Defending Key Management Service™ (SDKMS) next-generation HSM for modern applications operating in public and private clouds. Leveraging Intel® Software Guard Extensions (Intel® SGX), it is the world’s first solution delivering Runtime Encryption technology to protect keys, applications and data during use. Runtime Encryption allows general-purpose computation on encrypted data without exposing sensitive information. Fortanix delivers complete and deterministic privacy, as data remains encrypted and completely protected.
“With Runtime Encryption, customers get deterministic security for data-in-use, even from the most powerful adversaries,” said Ambuj Kumar, Fortanix co-founder and CEO. “This fundamentally transforms the security landscape by decoupling security from the infrastructure. The RSA Conference Innovation Sandbox selection continues to add to Fortanix’s industry recognition and growing traction. This quarter’s selections from Innovation Sandbox and Equinix are a great start to our year, and are the beginnings of significant achievements and milestones we expect to hit in 2018.”
In addition to participating in the RSA Conference Innovation Sandbox Contest, Fortanix will showcase its Runtime Encryption solutions in the Intel booth No. 3434 (North Hall). Fortanix will also participate in immersive demos of Equinix SmartKey™, powered by Fortanix, a global key management and encryption Software as a Service (SaaS) in the Equinix Booth No. 2240 (South Hall). Additionally, company CEO Kumar will participate in the session Protecting Containers from Host-Level Attacks on April 17 at 3:30 pm PDT, describing how Runtime Encryption can provide unmatched security to protect containers and data-in-use by running a secure enclave inside Intel® SGX.
Those interested are encouraged to book a meeting in advance with company experts.
The RSAC Innovation Sandbox Contest will begin at 1:30 p.m. PDT on April 16 at the Marriott Marquis in the Yerba Buena Ballroom. Dr. Herbert (Hugh) Thompson returns to emcee the contest, and the panel of five judges includes Asheem Chandna, partner at Greylock Partners; Gerhard Eschelbeck, vice president of security and privacy engineering at Google; Niloofar Razi Howe, tech investor and entrepreneur; Patrick Heim, operating partner and chief information security officer at ClearSky; and Paul Kocher, entrepreneur, researcher and IT security expert. The winner will be announced in front of a live audience later that day at 4:30 p.m. PDT.
Fortanix delivers provable deterministic security to organizations by offering the industry’s only Runtime Encryption. It has been selected by leading partners, including to power Equinix SmartKey™ HSM-as-a-service. While today’s encryption technologies protect only data at rest and data in motion, Runtime Encryption keeps keys, data and applications completely protected while in use from external and internal threats, including insiders, cloud providers, government subpoena, OS-level attacks and network intruders. Headquartered in Mountain View, Calif., the company is backed by Foundation Capital and NeoTribe. For more information, see https://fortanix.com/.
