BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Buildium, the property management solution for real estate professionals, opens its biannual scholarship program for the Spring 2018 semester today. Its two scholarships, Build U. and Women in Technology, offer undergraduate and graduate students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) degrees the opportunity to win one of two $2,500 prizes. Each year, Buildium receives hundreds of applications from students across the U.S. and Canada.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, STEM job opportunities grew at twice the rate of non-STEM jobs between 2009 and 2015—a trend that’s expected to continue through 2024. While demand for STEM professionals increases, the barrier for entry is high: Over 99% of STEM occupations require postsecondary education, compared to 36% of jobs overall. For many students, steep education costs push STEM careers beyond their reach.
“As someone who chose to pursue a career in technology, I can personally attest to how important my education was in my chosen field,” said Michael Monteiro, co-founder and CEO of Buildium. “In support of students interested in STEM degrees, we launched our STEM scholarship program in 2014 and are proud to offer four scholarship prizes every year to make opportunities as available as possible.”
The Build U. Scholarship is for aspiring engineers, developers, and designers. Applicants write about an organization that exemplifies Buildium’s core values: Focus on customers first; be helpful and supportive; communicate openly and honestly; be nimble and flexible; take initiative and work hard; and be passionate and have fun. The Women in Technology Scholarship recognizes female STEM students, who write about a female tech leader who inspires them. Applicants also record a video explaining what a scholarship would mean for their education.
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate STEM degree program. They must be at least 18 years old and in good academic standing with their university. The spring application deadline is April 15, 2018. For details, please visit https://www.buildium.com/buildiums-build-u-scholarship/ and https://www.buildium.com/women-in-technology-scholarship/.
