Survey: Seventy-Eight Percent of Customers Increased the Efficiency of Software Testing Using Ranorex’s Test Automation Tool

Majority of Respondents Saved Six Hours or More Per Week in Their Testing Processes

HOUSTON--()--Ranorex (a division of Idera, Inc.), a provider of testing automation tools, today announced the results of a global survey of nearly 700 customers who perform automated testing across desktop, web and mobile application platforms. Across the board, organizations using Ranorex benefited from increased test efficiency, shorter test cycles, more robust and reliable automation, and improved levels of technical knowledge and skills.

Conducted by TechValidate, an independent research organization, the survey captured feedback from small to large organizations in industrial manufacturing, computer software/services, government, electronics, healthcare, education, financial services, and aerospace and defense, among other categories.

According to TechValidate, the top test automation challenges customers face include maintaining existing automated tests due to changes in the UI (67%), creating new automated tests for new features in the software under test (45%), identifying and improving flaky tests (38%), maintaining deployment pipeline and automation environments (27%), insufficient technical skills on the existing team (23%), and management not understanding the costs and limitations of automated testing (23%), among others.

With Ranorex Studio and/or the Ranorex API, primarily functional UI tests are designed and performed, but also end-to-end tests, integration, web service/API, database, visual regression (page layout, responsiveness) and performance tests.

In order of importance, the top three most critical features for users in evaluating and selecting Ranorex Studio include ease of use (76%), excellent object recognition (64%), and fit into the technology stack: .NET, C#/VB.Net (53%).

The majority of teams had only 1-2 users performing automated testing, with the next largest group of respondents having only 3-4 users on their team. Seventy percent of survey respondents use Jenkins or Team Foundation Server continuous integration/delivery with their Ranorex tool, with more than 40% using Jira for test management.
