CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa.--()--IKEA U.S. today announced that contractors are now hired to build its future San Antonio-area store in Live Oak, TX. Pending remaining permits, this milestone keeps the project on track for site work to commence groundbreaking next spring (2018), and a store opening summer 2019, thus increasing the Swedish retailer’s presence in Texas. Until then, customers can shop at the closest IKEA stores in Houston and Round Rock, or online at IKEA-USA.com. In North Texas, IKEA is represented by stores in Frisco and Grand Prairie.

IKEA has chosen Tribble & Stephens to serve as Construction Manager for the IKEA Live Oak site work and store development project. Having a strong presence in the state of Texas, Tribble & Stephens is a full-service construction management, design/build and general contracting firm that has constructed IKEA stores in the past, including the IKEA stores in Houston and Round Rock.

Other firms assisting with this project are: real estate brokerage Segovia Retail Group for site selection support; Stantec for civil engineering; WD Partners for architecture, structural, mechanical, electrical and plumbing design; Raba Kistner Consultants, Inc. for geotechnical engineering; Code Consultants, Inc. for fire protection and fire alarm engineering; and GreenbergFarrow for development services.

“With contractors on board, plans can proceed towards opening the future IKEA Live Oak store,” said Lars Petersson, IKEA U.S. president. “This San Antonio-area store will provide a more convenient IKEA shopping experience for current and potential customers throughout South Texas who may live too far from IKEA Houston and IKEA Round Rock.”

Located approximately 15 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio, the 289,000-square-foot future IKEA Live Oak store would be built on 31 acres at the southwestern corner of Interstate 35 and Loop 1604. Store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. IKEA also is evaluating potential on-site power generation to complement its current U.S. renewable energy presence at 90% of its U.S. locations. In addition to the more than 500 jobs that are expected during the construction phase, approximately 250 coworkers will join the IKEA family when the new store opens.
