SAN MATEO, Calif.--()--Meta Company, a pioneer in the augmented reality (AR) field, announced today that former Apple India Managing Director Maneesh Dhir has joined the company as its new chief operating officer.

“I’m pleased to be at a forward-thinking company like Meta that is developing products that will change the way we communicate in the future,” said Dhir. “As COO, I look forward to preparing the company for future growth, driving increased customer adoption of the company’s technology and products, and the development of our next-generation product line.”

Before joining Meta, Dhir served as the managing director for Apple India, where he was responsible for expanding Apple’s retail presence, raising the customer experience, and growing Apple’s India business exponentially into a key revenue-generating market.

“We are particularly excited to tap into Maneesh’s unique level of expertise in successfully building and scaling large organizations for long term growth,” said Meron Gribetz, Meta founder and CEO. “We know that Maneesh will be invaluable to helping Meta deliver on its vision.”

Prior to working at Apple, Dhir served as executive vice president – international at America Online (AOL), overseeing the growth of AOL's Web business outside the U.S., spanning 40 countries across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. He was also instrumental in launching and scaling AOL’s offshore operations as senior vice president, where he led a large workforce across technology development, back-office, and customer service operations. Dhir previously held the position of vice president and general manager of the Application Platform division at Netscape (Netscape was acquired by AOL in 1999). Earlier in his career, he was part of the leadership team for KIVA Software, an internet start-up that was acquired by Netscape in 1997.

Dhir earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in New Delhi, India, a Master of Business Administration from Stanford University, and a Master of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

In December 2016, Meta began shipping its Meta 2 Development Kit to select individual and enterprise developers. The Meta 2 delivers a totally immersive experience unlike any other AR product to date, and enables users to interact with holograms with their hands, allowing them to touch, grab, create, and share digital content. The technology holds promise in application to numerous markets – including product and building design, education, workplace productivity, manufacturing, and medicine.

About Meta

Born in NYC and raised in Silicon Valley, Meta has been defining the field of AR since the company’s inception in 2012. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Meta was selected by Y Combinator (YC13) for seed funding. Meta entered the marketplace with the first see-through glasses that allowed wearers to move and manipulate 3D content intuitively, using natural hand interactions. With the launch of the groundbreaking Meta 2 Development Kit in 2016, Meta is once again redefining the market and delivering a new generation of Natural Machines™ that will become a healthy, vital extension of who we are.
