Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio and Cleveland Clinic Collaborate to Deliver Integrated Care

Consumers enrolled in Anthem MediBlue Prime Select (HMO) will receive physician care exclusively through Cleveland Clinic’s high-quality, proven health system

CLEVELAND--()--Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio (Anthem) and the Cleveland Clinic are collaborating to offer the health insurance plan Anthem MediBlue Prime Select (HMO), a plan that carries a $0 monthly premium. This plan brings together Anthem’s commitment to offering members high-quality, affordable health care with Cleveland Clinic’s values of providing innovative, excellence-driven, and compassionate patient care. Consumers will be able to enroll in the plan during this year’s Medicare Annual Election Period.

The Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) begins October 15, 2017, and continues through December 7, 2017 and gives Ohioans eligible for Medicare the opportunity to enroll in Anthem’s 2018 Medicare Advantage (MA) plans.

“We are proud to work with the Cleveland Clinic – one of the largest and most respected health systems in the country – providing us the opportunity to increase access for our members to best-in-class patient care facilities,” said David McNichols, president of Anthem’s Medicare central region. “Members will utilize Cleveland Clinic’s network for most of their health care, giving them the continuity of care needed to achieve the best health outcomes possible.”

With Anthem MediBlue Prime Select (HMO), members will receive all of their physician and hospital services exclusively through the Cleveland Clinic. Some services, such as outpatient dialysis and skilled nursing facilities, will be available through independent providers. Cleveland Clinic will work with Anthem to coordinate all of these services, which will ensure members receive the care they want and need to live the life they’ve earned.

“We share the common mission that patients are at the center of health care delivery, with a keen focus on providing compassionate care to address their unique health care needs,” said Kevin Sears, Executive Director, Cleveland Clinic Market & Network Services. “In collaboration with Anthem, we will be able to work with patients across the state of Ohio, providing high-quality, coordinated care to help improve their health and well-being.”

In addition to covering all Medicare services and prescription drugs, Anthem MediBlue Prime Select (HMO) provides members with additional benefits, such as dental, vision, allowance for hearing aids, SilverSneakers® fitness, in-home meals after being discharged from the hospital, quarterly stipend for certain over-the-counter health products, and access to a personal emergency response system (PERS).

SilverSneakers by Tivity Health teams up with healthcare stakeholders, such as Anthem, to help millions of baby boomers and beyond meet their personal goals and overcome health stereotypes. The program helps older adults take greater control of their health by engaging participants in more frequent exercise, strength training, aerobics, and flexibility training through a variety of venues and programming.

With the PERS, when an individual contacts the service by pushing a button located on a neck pendant or wrist band, representatives from the emergency service will try to contact the member to identify the kind of assistance needed. Depending on the results of that outreach, the PERS representative may contact a designated caregiver, a clinician, or local emergency services.

In addition to Medicare Advantage plans, Anthem offers standalone prescription drug plans (known as Part D plans) in all Ohio counties for people who enroll in Original Medicare, a government-sponsored program. Both the Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug (MAPD) and Part D drug plans utilize a preferred pharmacy network to help members save costs. This preferred cost-sharing pharmacy network will continue to be offered in 2018. MAPD will also add more hypertension medications for a $0 copay to the existing list of $0 copay medications that treat hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol and osteoporosis - some of Medicare’s most common conditions and utilized prescription drugs.

Anthem also offers Medicare Supplement plans all across the state for individuals in Original Medicare. These plans help cover costs Original Medicare does not cover, such as copayments, coinsurance and deductibles at any doctor or medical facility that accepts Medicare. These Supplement plans are generally paired with a PDP.
