iPhone® X Confirms 3D Facial Recognition Is The Future Of Mobile Biometrics; FaceTec’s ZoOm® Brings 3D Face Authentication To All of Today’s Mobile Devices

ZoOm’s AI Software Verifies 3D Face Depth, Proves Liveness and Increases App Security on All Modern iOS & Android Devices with No Specialized 3D Cameras Required

SUMMERLIN, NV.--()--FaceTec’s ZoOm®, the first universal 3D face authentication software solution, overcomes the expensive hardware requirements of the recently announced Apple® iPhone® X, clearing the path for immediate, widespread adoption of password-free 3D face authentication.

The $999 Apple iPhone X incorporates a specialized array of proprietary cameras and sensors to unlock the device. While phones with this feature can quickly identify the correct user, it will not be available on any other devices in Apple’s 2017-2018 lineup, let alone for the billions of previously sold Android and iOS devices. FaceTec’s ZoOm software authenticates users with excellent performance on the billions of smart devices running iOS 8.3+ and Android 4.3+ already in use globally, giving users a secure alternative to passwords during app login.

“The iPhone X doesn’t have a fingerprint reader because Apple knows that a fingerprint only identifies the user, it does not truly authenticate them. For authentication you must verify identity, 3D depth and liveness concurrently,” said Josh Rose, CTO of FaceTec. “While specialized 3D cameras might seek to solve the problem, they will take many years to achieve mass adoption because they are far too expensive. Industries like banking, insurance and healthcare need to improve mobile security today and can’t afford to wait 5-10 years for 3D face camera hardware to become mainstream.”

Publicly unveiled for the first time in August 2017, ZoOm uses proprietary, patent-pending TrueLiveness™ technology to verify identity, three-dimensionality and liveness using only the front-facing camera on any iOS or Android device. ZoOm overcomes previous limitations of biometric software making immediate, secure, password-free authentication possible for all smartphone users. ZoOm works with glasses, in all real-world lighting conditions - including at night - and features an intuitive selfie-style interface that requires less than two seconds to authenticate the user. App developers no longer have to choose between security and convenience, and users are no longer required to remember tedious passwords or endure time consuming multi-factor logins.

“Software is the only realistic way to add biometric security to every smart device in the world,” said Kevin Alan Tussy, CEO of FaceTec. “While hardware makers will always tout the latest bells and whistles to sell new phones, app publishers have different requirements and universal access is at the top of that list. Apple wants you to think you need a $1000 phone to be secure but, with ZoOm, every smart device can have 3D face authentication. ZoOm enables the deployment of strong biometric security across the entire mobile user base, regardless of the devices customers own.”

ZoOm is available in over 30 languages, is FiDO® and iBeta certified and can be configured with False Acceptance Rates (FAR) of 1/50,000 up to 1/1,000,000. The ZoOm Software Development Kit (SDK) is under 20MB and is so simple to integrate that it can be added to an app with just a few lines of code. The SDK is available now to all mobile app developers, and is free to all non-profits and educational organizations, startups, developers and small businesses with less than $10 million (USD) in annual revenue. For larger organizations, enterprise and government, ZoOm is billed per-user, per-month.

The fully functional ZoOm demo app is available for evaluation on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store under “ZoOm Login.” To learn more, please visit www.ZoOmLogin.com.
