Glyphosate Task Force: NGO Activists Ignore One of the Largest and Most Thorough Evaluations of an Active Substance Conducted to Date, in an Attempt to Politicise a Scientific Process.

BRUSSELS--()--The Glyphosate Task Force (GTF) finds the latest interference of activists with the EU regulatory process unacceptable, and objects to the pressure exerted today by anti-pesticide activists against the representatives of the member states participating at the Standing Committee on phytopharmaceuticals taking place today in Brussels.

The European approval process for pesticides is rigorous and transparent. In the case of the Glyphosate, it is one of the most comprehensive and thorough evaluations of an active substance to date. Over 90,000 pages and more than 3,200 peer-reviewed publications were considered in the assessment by Member States and EFSA. All relevant available data was reviewed.

The process facilitated stakeholder engagement and was subject to public comment. In the case of glyphosate, 3 NGO dossier notifications were accepted in addition to the applicant’s file back in 2012.

The GTF supports this process which has involved scores of world-class experts on consumer and environmental safety from all Member States.

Alleged expressions of threat and attempts to intimidate those representing the views of the member states, shows complete disregard for a rigorous 4 year process, involving more than 30 world-class experts on consumer safety from all member states.
