NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Delos®, a wellness real estate and technology, firm, today announced that it has completed an equity investment raise. Jeff Vinik and Cascade Investment, LLC were the lead investors. China-based Sino Ocean Land Holding Limited also participated in the transaction, as did a number of other investors. Delos expects to use the majority of the funds raised for the strategic growth of the company’s various business lines including the International WELL Building Institute™, its wholly owned subsidiary, Delos’ Signature Programs division, Delos Labs, Delos Ventures, Delos Solutions and its collaboration with Mayo Clinic on the Well Living Lab, as well as to support its global growth and expansion plans.
“Jeff Vinik, Cascade Investment and Sino Ocean Land Holding Limited are some of the best in class and most respected investors in the private equity space, and we are honored to have them onboard,” said Delos Founder and CEO Paul Scialla. “Delos is merging the largest asset class in the world – real estate – with the fastest growing industry in the world – wellness – and we believe the opportunity for growth in wellness real estate is tremendous.”
The strategic relationships with these experienced investors in the real estate industry and completion of this round will enable Delos to further pursue the company’s goal of bringing health and wellness programming, solutions and technologies into homes, offices, schools, healthcare facilities, mixed-use developments and communities, becoming a leader in these and many other building typologies around the world. Cascade Investment, LLC and Jeff Vinik are the principals in Strategic Property Partners, LLC, a $2 billion multi-use urban development in Tampa, Florida, which will feature the first WELL Certified™ city district.
“From the moment I met Paul Scialla, I knew that he and Delos were on to something big,” said Jeff Vinik, former manager of Fidelity Magellan Fund. “Health and wellness is clearly one of the major social movements of our age, and under Paul and Peter Scialla’s outstanding leadership, Delos is going to change the paradigm around individuals’ wellness in indoor environments. I am thrilled to be an investor in this terrific company.”
Known as the pioneer of Wellness Real Estate™, Delos launched in 2009 with a mission to transform indoor environments, where we spend more than 90 percent of our time, into spaces that help nurture, sustain and promote human health and well-being. Since then, Delos has pioneered the WELL Building Standard® (WELL), which is the first building standard to focus on enhancing people’s health and well-being through the built environment, and founded the International WELL Building Institute to administer WELL globally. To date, the program has enrolled approximately 20 million square feet of building projects in twelve countries.
Earlier this month, in partnership with Mayo Clinic, Delos opened the Well Living Lab, which is the first scientific center to use human-centered research to understand the interaction between health and well-being and indoor environments. Located adjacent to the campus of Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., the Lab will provide valuable insights regarding the real-world impact of indoor environments on human health and well-being, and generate evidence-based information that can be used in practical ways to create healthier indoor spaces.
Delos has built a distinguished Advisory Board which includes Dr. Deepak Chopra, former Chief of Staff of the Boston Regional Medical Center and founder of The Chopra Foundation; Dr. Michael Roizen, Chief Wellness Office of Cleveland Clinic; Dr. Nicholas LaRusso, Former Medical Director of Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation; Rick Fedrizzi, President and CEO of the U.S. Green Building Council; Leonardo DiCaprio, the actor and sustainability advocate; the Honorable Dick Gephardt, former House Majority Leader; Senator Mel Martinez; and world renowned sustainable building expert Jason McLennan, among others.
As the pioneer of Wellness Real Estate™, Delos is transforming our homes, offices, schools, and other indoor environments by placing health and wellness at the center of design and construction decisions. Delos helps create spaces that actively contribute to human health, performance and well-being by marrying the best innovations in technology, health, science, and real estate. The Delos platform includes programming, consulting, research, and an array of innovative products and technologies that research suggests may improve occupant well-being.
