GREEN BAY, Wis.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--IOD Incorporated, an innovator of HIM solutions that deliver on-demand, actionable information to operational and financial executives throughout the enterprise, today announced an agreement to acquire Chicago-based Care Communications, Inc. (CARE). The addition of CARE’s leading HIM consulting expertise and outsourcing services to IOD’s core HIM offerings bolsters the company’s capabilities to lead hospital customers ahead of—and beyond—the ICD-10 transition. The acquisition also expands IOD’s offerings into oncology data and clinical research services helping customers create meaningful health information out of structured and unstructured health record data.
“Gaining insights through the volume of data managed within patient records is becoming increasingly important to healthcare,” said Barbara Allen, general manager of IOD’s HIM services division. “The critical nature of ICD-10, coupled with the industry’s need for information analysis solutions, made CARE’s capabilities an ideal complement to IOD’s existing services. This acquisition enables us to seamlessly expand our offerings to further drive data insights, quality of care and enhance reimbursement.”
CARE has a nearly 40 year history during which it has been recognized as a leading national HIM consulting company. The company’s well-established reputation for innovation and excellence is realized through its 150+ talented HIM professionals who focus on exceeding client expectations. Many of CARE’s staff have also contributed to advancements in the industry through senior leadership positions in AHIMA, local component state HIM associations and National Cancer Registrars Association as well as acting as thought leaders across various industry forums. As part of the acquisition by IOD, Patty Thierry Sheridan, president of CARE, will lead the clinical research services and oncology data services business units taking on the role of senior vice president in IOD’s HIM services division.
“We are excited to have this unique opportunity to join IOD. It is the ideal organization for our HIM professionals to continue their focus on HIM quality, integrity, commitment to lifelong learning, and long-term relationships,” said Leslie Fox, chief executive officer of CARE. “We look forward to adding value to IOD’s 2,400 hospital customers, and also offering a more complete suite of advanced HIM solutions to our own partners. I am delighted to serve in an advisory role to IOD for the foreseeable future.”
Terms of the acquisition will not be disclosed.
In May 2015, New Mountain Capital announced the merger of IOD and HealthPort. The combination of the two companies created the nation’s leading platform for secure clinical data solutions. The combined HealthPort and IOD business, which will be rebranded in late 2015, serves over 18,000 healthcare providers with more than 5,800 employees.
