UnitedHealthcare's "We Dare You" Campaign and Microsite Win Eight Awards

  • Online campaign encourages people to make small changes and live healthier when they share a photo, take a quiz or watch a video

MINNETONKA, Minn.--()--UnitedHealthcare’s “We Dare You” consumer campaign (www.WeDareYouToShare.com) that encourages people to be active and healthy has won three Communicator Awards, two Hermes Awards, two Healthcare Advertising Awards and an Aster Award.

The UnitedHealthcare “We Dare You” campaign, which is part of the company’s Source4Women® digital and social health and wellness resource, “dares” people to make one small change to live healthier and then share a photo of themselves performing that dare. Examples include daring people to get 30 minutes of activity during their day, or to add more fruits and vegetables to their diet.

The dare changes each month, with topics ranging from health and wellness to nutrition and fitness. Each dare and its corresponding photo are linked to UnitedHealthcare’s consumer websites, including Source4Women and UHC.TV, where participants get instant access to relevant health and wellness resources to help educate and inspire them to live healthy lives.

People participating in “We Dare You” challenges can easily share their photos and content from the website with friends and family via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram. Influential health, wellness, nutrition and fitness bloggers are also engaged to promote the dares, and more than 3,000 photos are shared each month.

“We are connecting and engaging with thousands of people every month and fostering an interactive, online relationship to help empower people to take charge of their health and enhance their quality of life,” said Yasmine Winkler, chief marketing, product & innovation officer at UnitedHealthcare.

The “We Dare You” campaign earned three Communicator Awards from the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA). Chosen from among more than 6,000 entries, UnitedHealthcare’s campaign received three Silver Awards of Distinction, which recognize a standard of excellence in marketing and communications that transcends innovation and craft, according to the AIVA.

The two Hermes Awards from the Association for Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP) include gold in the social media/consumer engagement category and honorable mention for a social media/Facebook site. This international competition honors creative excellence in traditional and emerging media.

The Healthcare Advertising Awards represent the oldest and largest awards competition in the health care industry. Chosen from among 4,000 entries, the “We Dare You” initiative received two silver awards – one for digital marketing and one for social media.

The Aster Awards program recognizes health care organizations and advertising agencies for excellence in health care marketing and advertising. “We Dare You” received a silver award for social media.

The campaign was created by Zig Marketing, a digital and social marketing agency in Cleveland.
