WHAT:

UniMás turns up the heat this summer with the debut of “Metástasis,” a new and original Latin American adaptation of the highly acclaimed series “Breaking Bad.” The grand premiere of “Metástasis” will be simulcast across the UniMás, Univision, and Galavisión networks on Sunday, June 8, 2014 before settling in at its regular timeslot at 10 p.m. Monday through Friday, exclusively on UniMás.

Intensely dramatic, gripping, surprising, and sometimes even a bit unsettling, the story depicts the life-altering transformation of Walter Blanco, a modest high school chemistry teacher who is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Weighing his limited options and finances, Walter realizes that he is willing to do just about anything to ensure that his pregnant wife and disabled son are well provided for when he is gone. And so begins an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride that takes him from the classroom to the dangerous business of drug trafficking, as he decides to use his extensive knowledge of chemistry to start a methamphetamine production lab with one of his former students, José Miguel.

Once Walter starts reaping the enormous financial benefits of selling his high quality meth, and consequently gaining notoriety and power within the criminal world of dealers and drug cartels, he undergoes an irreversible metamorphosis. What was initially a desperate short-term measure taken for a noble cause becomes his life calling, and the seemingly good man he once was is revealed as intrinsically ruthless and dangerous, much to his own surprise. Closely following Walter on his dark journey will be his innocent wife, Cielo, and his brother-in-law, Henry, a savvy police officer from the narcotics division who is determined to discover the identity of the city’s newest drug lord.
