REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Net2TV (www.net2television.com) today announced that its Portico TV service will be available to an estimated 5 million Roku® users beginning in late June. Portico provides free, advertising-supported, program-length shows from major media brands and emerging independents. The Portico programming is designed for the “lean-back” experience associated with traditional TV viewing.
Net2TV’s Portico brings to Internet-connected TVs the best of the traditional television viewing experience — free, program-length shows — using advanced cloud technology from ActiveVideo. Net2TV works with established media brands that have good-quality, short-form pieces, and with emerging online video producers and independent filmmakers. The company curates these pieces and packages them into full 30-, 60-, or 90-minute television programs for TV streaming platforms like Roku.
For example, Net2TV’s Portico TV service carries online TV programming from Discovery’s Revision3 and CBS Interactive’s CHOW.com, from traditional print media brands including Bonnier’s “Popular Science,” and from emerging brands like CINEQUEST films. Portico programming is updated daily, and new types of entertainment and special-interest programming will be added in the future.
“There’s broad appeal to the Roku platform which has made it possible for millions of people to enjoy the benefits of Internet-connected TV,” said Tom Morgan, Net2TV co-founder and CEO. “Roku and Net2TV share a commitment to making television easy, fulfilling and affordable. We look forward to helping them expand their television offering for viewers with Portico's new style of programming, and giving a new set of television producers access to the Roku audience.”
