NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--BooktrackTM, the creator of a new and engaging way to read that matches synchronized music and ambient sound to the text of your favorite eBooks, and Indaba Music, the leading online community of musicians and marketplace for music opportunities, today announced the release of the publishing industry’s first crowdsourced Booktrack to enhance the reading experience. Indaba Music’s online community of over 700,000 musicians were challenged to create each audio cue required for the H.G. Wells novel, “The Time Machine” through an online music creation opportunity producing more than 600 individual submissions from which the winning cues were selected and incorporated into the Booktrack soundtrack.
This unique opportunity allowed Indaba Music’s members to find inspiration in the written word and create submissions that ultimately enhance the experience of reading, setting an accompanying scene with background music and audio ambience.
“Booktrack is a brilliant idea to enhance the storytelling in popular titles through musical and ambient audio accompaniment to the written word. It’s exciting to offer our members this opportunity to create something new, inspired by famous words,” said J.J. Rosen, CEO, Indaba Music. “This project creates an enhanced experience for readers as it weaves in another sense, hearing, to their reading experience and we look forward to bringing more Booktrack titles to our members to score.”
“The response from the Indaba Music community was staggering, illustrating that there is a strong appetite from audio professionals and amateurs to create Booktracks, which is an important part of our future strategy,” said Paul Cameron, co-founder and CEO, BooktrackTM. “It is not until people try Booktrack that they understand the immersive element that music and ambient audio brings to reading, and the Indaba Music-produced Booktrack edition of ‘The Time Machine’ is another great reason for readers to try Booktrack and experience it for themselves.”
"The Booktrack contest was a wonderful opportunity. I approached composing the accompaniment to the novel 'The Time Machine' in the same way I would if it was a film,” said Graham Plowman, an Ireland-based musician who submitted for each of the possible components. “The book was wonderfully 'directed' within the notes, and the vivid imagery conjured by the text made composing feel natural and spontaneous. The Booktrack idea is innovative, and ‘The Time Machine’ is a great, classic story. I loved every part of scoring the book and look forward to future Booktrack projects.”
“The Time Machine” Booktrack edition is available now for $1.99 and free to preview on the Booktrack Bookshelf App, a free download from the App Store on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/booktrack-bookshelf/id455861970?ls=1&mt=8.
