“Citi Salutes” Initiative to Enhance Citi’s Longtime Service to Veterans and Military Personnel

NEW YORK--()--Building on a proud tradition of providing career opportunities and best-in-class customer service to military veterans and their families, Citi today officially launched “Citi Salutes,” a one-stop resource that consolidates all of Citi’s programs, products and partnerships that support the greater veterans community. Housed at CitiSalutes.com, the initiative encompasses our long-term commitment to create career opportunities at Citi and within the financial services industry; Citi banking products and services tailored to military customers; money management tools and resources to build financial capability; and information about Citi’s longtime partnerships with veteran service organizations (VSOs).

“In launching Citi Salutes, we are providing members of our nation’s Armed Services, past and present, with a centralized resource to meet a range of unique needs,” said Citi CEO Vikram Pandit. “Citi is committed and honored to provide meaningful personal and professional opportunities, specialized products, and the best possible service to those who have dedicated themselves to protecting and defending their fellow Americans.”

Visitors to CitiSalutes.com are able to access information categorized into three areas:

  • Careers: Citi’s current job opportunities, which include mentoring programs, flexible hiring processes, and accelerated promotion tracks.
  • Manage Your Money: Citi’s financial capability programs as well as products and services specifically developed for military customers.
  • Community: Citi’s engagement, led by Citi Community Development, with leading VSOs and community organizations to advance key initiatives in areas like jobs, financial education and housing.

Hiring military veterans has been a longtime priority for Citi, which was named among the top ten “Best for Vets” Employers for 2012 by Military Times EDGE. The company currently employs more than 2,000 self-identified veterans, including nearly 700 hired in 2011 alone. Citi Salutes leverages this internal pool of expertise and our external partnerships to develop the kinds of programs and offerings that veterans, active-duty servicemembers, and their families need to realize their personal goals and professional aspirations.

“Citi Salutes harnesses, leverages and expands Citi’s connectivity across businesses, customers and clients in order to support, educate and recruit veterans,” said Suni Harford, Citi’s Regional Head of Markets for North America. “Thanks to the shared commitment of our senior business leaders, our veteran colleagues, and our community partners, Citi Salutes is working to respond to the high veterans unemployment rate, the financial challenges faced by military families, and the unique needs of our uniformed men and women that are returning from Iraq and Afghanistan in large numbers.”

The commitment to veterans at the core of Citi Salutes is historically ingrained in Citi’s culture, coming from the very top of the company. Citi leadership is deeply involved with the Advisory Board of Joining Forces, a national initiative established by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden to encourage individuals, communities and businesses to support veterans and their families.

“Citi is among the key large companies whose participation in Joining Forces has resulted in more than 60,000 jobs for veterans and military spouses since April 2011,” said U.S. Navy Captain Brad Cooper, Executive Director of Joining Forces. “With a commitment to hire an additional 1,000 veterans in 2012, Citi is helping to lead this broad national effort to support our returning troops.”

Citi Salutes is committed to sharing best practices and collaborating with our peer institutions to collectively meet the challenges facing our country’s veterans. In 2010, Citi began working with four other financial services firms to develop a coordinated, noncompetitive professional development program for veterans looking to work in our industry. Today, Veterans on Wall Street (VOWS) brings together the best of Wall Street to support and honor our Armed Forces servicemembers by convening stakeholders who have a shared interest in veterans’ employment and transitional issues. The second annual VOWS conference and job fair will be held on June 21, 2012, in New York City.

In addition to VOWS and Joining Forces, Citi Salutes is actively engaged with a number of cross-sector groups working with the veteran community. Citi is an official partner of the Military Spouse Employment Partnership, serves on the advisory board of the US Chamber of Commerce’s Veterans Employment Advisory Council, and in 2011 Vikram Pandit signed the Department of Defense’s Employer Support for the Guard & Reserve.
