CommScope Statement Regarding Antenna Patent Suit

HICKORY, N.C.--()--CommScope has issued the following statement in response to litigation from Comba Telecom:

CommScope, Inc.—which, along with its Andrew LLC subsidiary, holds various patents on remote electrical tilt (RET) technology—has been sued in the US District Court for the District of Delaware by Comba Telecom, which seeks a declaratory judgment that eight of Andrew’s patents are invalid. Andrew possesses other RET patents that are not part of this litigation. RET antenna technology allows cellular operators to remotely control the direction of cellular base station antennas to optimize the wireless coverage they provide.

Comba, based in Hong Kong and China, claims to currently not sell RET antenna products in the US market and has indicated in its complaint that it will not do so unless the patents at issue are declared invalid. Comba or its affiliated companies are also defendants in previously filed foreign patent infringement cases initiated by CommScope on behalf of its Andrew LLC subsidiary.

CommScope strongly believes that its US patents are valid and will be upheld. CommScope invests in intellectual property that helps the telecommunications industry operate more efficiently and with higher quality of service. The company will respond appropriately to this lawsuit through the legal process.

CommScope, through its Andrew subsidiary, previously has licensed this antenna technology to other major antenna manufacturers, and has patents on RET technology in the following countries:

  • Asia-Pacific: Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand and Taiwan
  • Europe, Middle East, Africa: Germany, France, Great Britain and Sweden
  • Americas: United States and Brazil
