ST. LOUIS--()--For the fifth consecutive year, FORTUNE has placed St. Louis-based Scottrade, Inc., a leading branch-supported online investing firm, on the FORTUNE® “100 Best Companies to Work For” list. This year, the company ranked number 31.

According to FORTUNE, Scottrade made the list in part because it can “take pride in the fact that it's never had a layoff.”

“To be recognized as one of America’s best places to work by FORTUNE for one year is an achievement, but to be named for five consecutive years is truly a feat,” said Rodger Riney, Scottrade, Inc.’s founder and CEO. “Throughout this volatile market, we have – and will – continue to grow to help our clients overcome barriers to financial success.”

Scottrade had a strong year in both innovation and growth in 2011.

  • Scottrade met the demand for exchange-traded funds (ETFs) among individual and institutional investors by launching Focus™ Morningstar ETFs in March. The offering includes 15 domestic equity ETFs benchmarked to Morningstar, Inc. indexes.
  • Scottrade Bank opened its virtual doors to clients, inviting them to integrate their banking and brokerage needs into one easy-to-manage platform where money can be accessible for trading, day-to-day spending or investing for the future. The new online banking suite includes checking accounts, savings accounts and CDs.
  • Scottrade continues to evolve with technology, launching its mobile trading app in August. The Scottrade® Mobile app offers clients real-time research, news and analyst views and includes the ability to monitor investments, generate investment ideas, research opportunities and execute trades.

The company continues to recruit and retain top talent while expanding operations. The past year saw Scottrade hire more than 450 associates, bringing the overall total to more than 3,700, to help support its 500-plus branch offices and operation centers in St. Louis, Denver, Phoenix and Chicago.

“Scottrade is dedicated to providing our associates the opportunity to grow professionally while maintaining a healthy balance of work and home life,” said Jane Wulf, Scottrade’s chief administrative officer. “For more than 30 years, our employees have helped pave the foundation to our success, and that will never change.”

Working for Scottrade offers many unique benefits, including a wellness reimbursement program that pays associates back for expenses including health club memberships and smoking cessation programs. Scottrade’s charitable giving program matches associates’ charitable donations and also donates $20 for every hour of volunteer time given by an associate.

Placement on FORTUNE’s list is one of many recognitions Scottrade has recently received. Beyond this recognition from FORTUNE, the company and its associates have been recognized in several areas including business achievement, civic contributions and associate training and development.
