ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Total Defense, Inc., a global leader in malware threat detection and anti-crimeware solutions, announced today that it has completed its carve out from CA Technologies and appointed Paul Lipman as its chief executive officer. Mr. Lipman was most recently chief strategy officer for Webroot, a leading endpoint security provider, and was previously senior vice president and general manager of Webroot’s consumer business unit. Mr. Lipman brings over twenty years experience in the software industry to his role having also served as a senior executive at Keynote Systems.
Total Defense was previously the Internet Security business of CA Technologies before being established as an independent company. IDC ranked CA’s former Internet Security Business unit as among the top ten providers of endpoint security solutions to businesses in 20091 and the NPD Group recently ranked it as the number six US consumer retail vendor of security software2. Total Defense also announced that Christopher Hickey will serve as President, Field. Mr. Hickey previously ran CA’s Channel Sales division and founded its former Home and Home Office and Small Business operations, and earlier served as a senior sales executive at Cheyenne Software.
Lawrence Guerin was named Total Defense vice president of marketing. Mr. Guerin recently served as vice president of global channel sales and marketing for CA Technologies, where he managed the global marketing of CA’s Endpoint Security division.
Total Defense also announced Marcus Smith as chief financial officer. Mr. Smith was previously CFO at Nominum, an internet infrastructure software provider, and CFO at Actiance (formerly FaceTime Communications), a security appliance company focused on social media and network communications. Mr. Smith also held numerous positions as a senior financial executive at other companies including Netscreen, SonicBlue and Price Waterhouse.
Total Defense leadership also includes director Barry Goldsmith, Updata Partners founding partner, founder of two successful software companies, and former board member of public companies Compuware, Dendrite International, and Goal Systems, among others. Mr. Goldsmith joins Total Defense chairman James Socas, Updata Partners general partner and a former member of the global leadership team at Symantec, the global leader in security and storage software.
