SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--3M Health Information Systems has signed an agreement with HealthTrust Purchasing Group, LP (HealthTrust), to offer 3M clinical documentation improvement consulting services and software, and 3M ICD-10 transition planning services to HealthTrust’s network of more than 1,400 acute care facilities. 3M will provide HealthTrust members with actionable information that can be used to help improve clinical outcomes, obtain appropriate reimbursement and prepare for the new ICD-10 national coding standard.
The agreement includes the 3M DRG Assurance Program, 3M’s market-leading clinical documentation improvement program, and the 3M Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) System, both expanded with ICD-10 concepts and terms. HealthTrust members will also have access to 3M’s new ICD-10 modeling and code translation services, clinical documentation assessment services and claims impact analysis services—all specifically developed for ICD-10, scheduled to be implemented nationwide in October 2013.
“Working now to improve clinical documentation for ICD-10 should be a primary focus of every hospital’s ICD-10 transition plan,” said Sandeep Wadhwa, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Vice President, Coding and Reimbursement for 3M Health Information Systems. “Our expanded agreement will help HealthTrust hospitals prepare for the greater documentation specificity required for coding and reimbursement under the new ICD-10 coding standard.”
More than 800 hospitals have relied on the 3M DRG Assurance Program to improve clinical documentation. 3M DRG Assurance clients typically see an increase in case mix index of 2 percent to 4 percent, with an average 4:1 financial return in the first year of the program. 3M also provides the 3M CDI System, a unique leave-behind software tool that offers clinical documentation guidelines and edits interactively during concurrent chart review, helping organizations to sustain financial improvements and promote productivity gains for documentation review specialists.
