Raises Series A, Secures $3 Million from Shasta, First Round Capital as Well as Felicis Ventures, SoftTech VC and Angel Investors further promotes movie discovery with the debut of curated TOP10s and Mashups. Site opens up discovery tools and clip feeds to third-party sites and developers.

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--() today announced its first round of institutional funding, a Series A Round of $3 million that the company plans to invest in tools that promote the discovery of movies’ best moments through curated clips.

The first of these discovery features to launch are its TOP10 and MASHUP clips. These curated videos showcase compilations such as “Best On-Screen Kisses”, “Top Sporting Moments”, “Best Dance Moves Ever” and many more.

Shasta Ventures and First Round Capital both invested in the Series A round. Angel investors participating in the round include: Jeff Clavier of SoftTech VC, Aydin Senkut of Felicis Ventures, Naval Ravikant, Jeff Kearl, Tom McInerney, and prior investor Richmond Park Partners. Tod Francis (Shasta Ventures), and Adam Lilling will be joining MOVIECLIPS’ Board of Directors.

"We were looking for venture partners that understood both product and the consumer," said MOVIECLIPS Co-Founder Zach James. "We are very pleased to have Shasta, First Round, and our great Angels join us on the mission to delight our users with the best movie moments in the history of cinema.”

“The Internet is the ideal medium to showcase short-form movie clips. Consumers can never get enough of their favorite movies, premium advertisers want to connect with this audience, and movie studios need trusted partners to showcase the best of their libraries,” said Tod Francis, Managing Director of Shasta Ventures. “Movieclips is the destination where this all comes together.”

MOVIECLIPS has the largest collection of licensed Hollywood movie scenes on the web, and by leveraging its proprietary technology the site assigns up to 1,000 points of relevant data points to every scene. This data powers the new “related clips” feature on the site. Users are no longer limited to browsing clips from a single movie; with the site’s new functionality users are treated to a wall of 100 related clips “related by” actor, movie, action, mood, setting, theme, director, prop, cinematographer, and many more categories. Since launching this feature, page views have increased by over 200%, as users fall into an addictive click trance from one clip to the next.

“The way we’ve collected data and curated the scenes makes browsing through movies more natural and intuitive than ever before,” said MOVIECLIPS Co-Founder Richard Raddon, former director of the Los Angeles Film Festival.

MOVIECLIPS is committed to enabling consumers to benefit from its powerful discovery engine anywhere across the web. To do this, MOVIECLIPS has opened up its clip feeds to any third-party developers and websites. AOL’s Moviefone is already using this functionality to engage visitors with relevant clips such as “Iconic Horror Scenes” and “Best Break-Ups”.

“Every website, from mommy blogs to weather sites, can now leverage our proprietary platform to engage their audience with entertaining and contextual movie clips. Imagine clips from ROCKY on sports sites or athletic blogs or even inspirational message boards. The possibilities are limitless with this content,” said Co-Founder Zach James.
