WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dr. Robert P. Kadlec returns to global management consulting firm PRTM as a vice president in its Global Public Sector business, based in Washington, D.C. Dr. Kadlec left PRTM in 2007, when he was appointed special assistant to the president for homeland security and senior director for biological defense policy, serving as the president’s principal advisor on issues pertaining to bioterrorism and pandemic influenza preparedness.
At the time of his White House appointment, Dr. Kadlec was a key member of PRTM’s Biodefense and Public Health practice. Prior to PRTM, Dr. Kadlec served as the staff director for the Senate Subcommittee on Bioterrorism and Public Health Preparedness under Senator Richard Burr (R-NC), where he was instrumental in drafting the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act enacted in 2006. Previously, he served at the White House as a director for biodefense on the Homeland Security Council, where he was responsible for conducting the Biodefense End-to-End Assessment and drafted the National Biodefense Policy for the 21st Century.
“Bob’s exceptional contributions to critical national missions and his career experience spanning public health and homeland security policy have uniquely equipped him to have a substantial positive impact on the compelling issues we face today in biodefense. We are honored that Bob has chosen to pursue his personal goals and his commitment to service here at PRTM,” said Rear Admiral Mike Finley, PRTM's lead Global Public Sector director.
“As the ongoing epidemic of H1N1 influenza virus reminds us, the challenges that the U.S. faces from natural and deliberate biological threats require urgent effort to effectively improve biodefense preparedness and response at all levels. This requires ever closer collaboration across the U.S. Government, with state and local, as well as other countries governments, and with global public health officials. One of the most important roles in effective preparedness is that played by the private sector,” Dr. Kadlec said. “I’m delighted to rejoin PRTM, whose decades of commercial life sciences experience remain critical to implementing pragmatic solutions for real-world preparedness.”
Dr. Kadlec has served in a wide range of joint military, medical and inter-agency policy positions concerning counterterrorism, nonproliferation and counterproliferation of biological weapons. After Sept. 11, 2001, he became special advisor on biological warfare for the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Dr. Kadlec holds a Bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Doctorate of Medicine and Master’s of tropical medicine and hygiene from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and a Master’s degree in national security studies from Georgetown University.
