Endeca empowers retail merchandisers with introduction of Endeca Merchandising Workbench

New capabilities help retailers create promotions, publish landing pages, optimize SEM and tune search performance for dynamic stores


CHICAGO & CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--()--Endeca Technologies, Inc., an information access software company, today unveiled Endeca® Merchandising Workbench, a new management tool suite designed for retail merchandisers. Available for the Endeca Information Access Platform (IAP), the new suite combines merchandising, content spotlighting, search engine marketing (SEM), search configuration, reporting and landing page creation capabilities, all designed for use on dynamic e-commerce stores. As a result, retailers can create and manage differentiated multi-channel shopping experiences that increase conversion rates, boost customer loyalty, deliver higher returns on SEM strategies, and reduce site management costs.

Dynamic storefronts are perfect for delivering unique and personalized customer experiences, and allow merchandisers to rapidly respond to shifting goals and new opportunities. But managing such an experience today requires merchandisers to be proficient at handling multiple systems or rely on developers and other technical staff to make timely changes, said Steve Papa, CEO of Endeca. Endeca Merchandising Workbench is designed to work the way merchandisers think, putting them in control of the entire shopping experience to address changing requirements and capitalize on opportunities through a single, intuitive tool suite.

Endeca Merchandising Workbench is the latest result of Endecas collaborative focus on retail innovation (see related news) and leverages input and feedback from Endecas client base of more than 200 online retailers. It manages the capabilities of the Endeca Information Access Platform, which powers the online shopping experience of leading retailers in North America, Europe and Australia, including Barnes & Noble, Boots, Borders Group, Circuit City, The Home Depot, Office Depot, Nike, Tesco and Walmart.com.

One innovative client that proved influential to the development of Endeca Merchandising Workbench is eBags, who combines search and Guided Navigation® capabilities with branded boutique store landing pages for manufacturers like Tommy Hilfiger, Timbuk2, The North Face and Kate Spade.

Online merchandising plays a key role in conversion rates, margins and a differentiated customer experience, but has historically been limited to a specific subset of pages and specific zones within those pages, said Peter Cobb, co-founder and senior vice president at eBags. Whats unique about Endecas Merchandising Workbench is that its capabilities provide an opportunity to influence and customize hundreds of dynamic landing pages and a much larger percentage of the overall shopping experience. An extensible tool suite, Endeca Merchandising Workbench comes with several pre-packaged modules and capabilities designed for retail environments. New modules and extensible capabilities -- created by Endeca, as well as Endecas partners and other developers can be shared and downloaded from the Endeca Developer Network (EDeN) portal. This ensures that retailers can quickly expand their capabilities and benefit from the collective expertise and best practices of Endecas retail developer community, without having to upgrade to new versions of the software.   • Page Builder Rapidly create and manage dozens or even hundreds of dynamic, contextual landing pages based on keywords, brands, categories, etc. to boost conversion rates, advance natural search strategies and generate new revenue streams
  • Dynamic Merchandising Create rules-based up-sell and cross-sell promotions that feature specific, hand-selected items, top items from a particular category or set of categories; Use sales rank, product reviews, inventory, purchasing history, margin and other key data to rank and trigger highly relevant promotions that increase margins and average order value
  • Content Spotlighting Create rules-based promotion of relevant content, product guides, manufacturer branding, advertising, etc. based on search terms, navigation, user preferences and more to deliver a consistent multi-channel shopping experience and inform purchasing decisions
  • Search Configuration Manage synonyms, tune relevancy strategies, create keyword redirects to ensure the most relevant results for product searches
  • Reporting Inform site tuning, merchandising decisions and SEM spending through dozens of out-of-the-box reports, including A/B testing, search terms, merchandising results, most common navigation, and more
  • Workflow Management Preview merchandising scenarios to see the impact of proposed changes and enable managers to evaluate, accept or reject rules created by multiple merchandisers
  • Authorization & Authentication Manage user permissions and assign granular access to Endeca Merchandising Workbench and Endeca IAP functionality; e.g. the ability to define rule creators vs. rule approvers
