ROSEMEAD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Panda Express, the nation’s leader in Chinese quick-service restaurants, will debut their first drive-thru location in the Fresno-area at 3980 East Nees Ave. in Clovis, Calif. Panda Express is responsible for introducing the premier drive-thru Chinese restaurant concept. In honor of the grand opening, Panda Express will host a celebration at the new restaurant on Saturday, Oct. 28 with festivities for the whole family.
All members of the community are invited to the grand opening event at the East Nees Avenue location. The event will kick-off at 3:00 p.m. on Oct. 28 with free meals for the first 88 guests, since the number eight in the Chinese culture is thought to bring good fortune. A ribbon cutting ceremony which will be attended by members of the Chamber of Commerce will be held at 3:15 p.m. and will be followed by a traditional lion dance at 3:30 p.m. and a Kung fu demonstration at 3:45 p.m. A live radio remote with KRZR 103.7 FM will offer giveaways throughout the event.
The celebration will also include a “Chow Mein Chow Down” competition at 4:00 p.m. for a $300 grand prize. Student representatives from both Clovis High School and Buchanan High School will compete to determine who can eat the most chow mein in five minutes using chopsticks and only one hand. Each participant will receive a Panda Express t-shirt and gift certificate for a free Panda Express meal. In addition, the runner up team receives a $200 prize for their participation.
Twenty percent of all sales from the new restaurant on the day of the grand opening event will be donated to Angles of Grace Foster Family Agency, a non-profit organization that recruits and trains foster families in order to place children in need of out-of-home placement. They provide social services to the children and provide on-going support to the foster families. In addition their agency provides care for these children in terms of long-range treatment planning, treatment emphasis, discipline, and behavior management.
“Panda Express launched in 1983, and in 1997, the first drive-thru was tested. The added convenience of this concept has been met with great enthusiasm from guests. We now have more than 107 drive-thru locations chain wide,” said Helen Lin, Regional Director of Operations for Panda Express. “Our organization has thrived in the Fresno area because of dedicated associates who are inspired to better their lives. We will continue to offer growth opportunities at all levels throughout the year.”
Panda Express debuted in Fresno in 1994, and since then has become a key growth market for the company – the restaurant on East Nees Avenue is the 10th location in the area. Panda Express will continue to rapidly expand in the market. Each new restaurant brings approximately 15 jobs to the local community; the company already employs nearly 150 associates in and around Fresno.
Operating hours for the East Nees Avenue location will be 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. For location information and hours of operation for a Panda Express near you, visit www.pandaexpress.com.
