NEWARK, N.J. & WAYNE, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Audible, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADBL; www.audible.com), the leader in spoken audio entertainment, information, and education on the Internet, and Newark Mayor Cory A. Booker, today announced that in early 2007 Audible will be relocating corporate headquarters from Wayne, NJ, to 1 Washington Park in Newark, NJ.
1 Washington Park is a premier office tower located in downtown Newark’s booming North Broad Street District. Audible, Inc. and more than 170 of its employees will occupy approximately 50,000 square feet of the top two floors of the 17-story building. The new headquarters will include a large studio installation intended to accelerate audible.com’s successful original audio production and educational programming efforts.
“Newark has the innate advantages - industry clusters, first-class transportation network, and access to human capital - to restore itself as the center of commerce in New Jersey and a major force in the Eastern Region,” said Mayor Cory A. Booker. “The City of Newark welcomes Audible and its employees as our new neighbors, and we second the clear message Audible’s management is sending to the business community: Newark is open for business.”
“Beyond the obvious transportation advantages Newark affords us and our plans to upgrade the quality of life for our employees by moving into 1 Washington Park, we are moving because we want to be part of the Newark Renaissance,” said Donald R. Katz, founder and CEO of Audible. “We want to become a part of Mayor Cory Booker’s vision for the City of Newark.”
“With 1 Washington Park, we had the unique opportunity to locate our offices in a building soon to complete a major upgrade and offering first-class amenities. We’re very impressed with the Fidelco Group’s plans and management of the property,” continued Mr. Katz, who also serves on the board of Uncommon Schools, which supports the pioneering Newark charter school, North Star Academy, and other charter schools. Mr. Katz was named The Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for New Jersey in 2004 and has led Audible, Inc. to Top 10 rankings in the annual Deloitte & Touche rankings of fastest-growing companies in New Jersey for the past four years.
